SCAFL Eagles, Bombers
staring down tough tasks
against one and two
SAPPHIRE Coast AFL’s top four will be in the thick
of things on Saturday.
The reigning premier Pambula Panthers will play the
Bega Bombers, while the Sea Eagles host the Merimbula Diggers.
The Sea Eagles enjoyed a recovery session on Tuesday to prepare for a big match against the Diggers.
“It’s about getting the bodies right and being ready for the weekend,” team skipper Luke Taylor
said.
The Eagles will be looking to put on a good show for fans, as they do so regularly in home
matches.
The club has a phenomenal record at Lawrence Park and this season marked the first time in 20
years Pambula had won at the Tathra ground.
So it will weigh heavily in the minds of the Diggers, who are locked into second place on the ladder.
Now is the time to get a roll on, a loss in the penultimate round could prove costly to morale just
two weeks from finals.
After a touch-up at the hands of Pambula, the Sea Eagles will be out for redemption, too.
So the Diggers could be in for an upset if the Tathra roster has anything to say about it.
Meanwhile, the Bega Bombers are up against the Panthers.
Both squads are coming off comprehensive wins.
Bombers coach Chris Dwyer said the club had been setting goals to achieve this year.
And so far, the Bombers have been hitting the benchmarks, but the next challenge on the cards is
to overcome the Panthers.
No one has been able to in almost two years, but the Panthers are not infallible.
Dwyer has his side running fitter, faster and more coordinated than they have looked in previous
years.
The Bombers are playing some of their best footy with clever handball movement and a solid back
line.
Two big matches will help decide the pecking order when finals roll around on August 22.
The Bombers will play the Panthers at the Eden ground, while the Sea Eagles swoop on Lawrence
Park.

HS South
Coast
Champions
Last Friday Narooma HS
travelled to Bateman's Bay
to take on Quenbeyan's
Karabar HS to decide the
South Coast champion of
the Tony Lockett shield.
Boasting a number of regulars from the Narooma Lions under 16's the Sea Eagles got off
to a quick start down wind to put a gap between them and Karabar HS in a blistering first
quarter.
With Jai Reed dominating in the ruck, Jeremy Sly in the middle and Jackson Taylor kicking majors in the forward line, Narooma HS continued to their dominance in the second
quarter to lead by ten goals at the main break.
With the Narooma defence holding water tight Karabar HS found the going tough when
going inside 50 with the Narooma defence rebounding well to hit Karabar HS on the
counter as the Sea Eagles extended their lead into the third quarter.
There was no ease off from Narooma HS with the side linking up well extend their lead
into the fourth quarter and run out convincing winners 21.6-132 to Karabar 2.3-15 to claim
the South Coast final.
Jackson Taylor led the way with 5 goals, Jai Reed with 4, Brock Lazzaro, Jermy Sly Zac
Martin and Tully Wilton all with 2 and Liam Russell, Jack Sykes and Kaleb Moritz with 1
apiece. Best players on the day were Jai Reed, Kaleb Moritz, Chris Olsen, Tully Wilton,
Liam Sweeney and Connor Breust.
Football Development Coordinator Jarrod Moore praised the good work of Kim Preston
and his team. 'It's great for the school, local competition and community to have this group
of boys doing so well in the Tony Lockett Shield. Its a credit to Kim who has got the best
out of the boys and it's a great opportunity for the boys that play regularly to develop as
footballers whilst it also gives the boys who may be playing for the first time a great experience playing our great game'.
Narooma HS will now travel to Wonoona on the 13th August to take on the champion
school of the Hunter Valley.

Round Preview
Tathra v Merimbula
The Diggers and Sea Eagles have played in two cracking matches so far in 2015 with the Diggers holding the upper hand as they go for
the clean sweep against the Sea Eagles this weekend. The two sides come in to this weekends clash off the back of two contrasting
results last weekend as the Diggers easily accounted for 2014 Preliminary finalists Bermagui whilst the Panthers showed that Tathra
have a lot of catching up to do as we approach the finals if they are looking to bring the premiership to Lawrence Park this weekend.
Player to Watch– Tom Burch. If Adam Daley misses a consecutive week Tom’s role in the middle will be all that more important.
Bega v Pambula
The Bombrs have done well in 2015 to compete well against the Panthers so far in their two matchups so far this season. With a solid
win last weekend against the Lions the Bombers will be looking to show the Panthers that they can continue to make life hard for the
Panthers and restrict their ability to hit the scoreboard. The Panthers will be looking to maintain their winning streak in Eden.
Player to Watch– Adam Nelson. Sometimes the forgotten man, Adam provides the rebound of the back half to set up the team.
Narooma v Bermagui
This local rivalry could determine who ends up with the wooden spoon in 2015 with both sides keen to gain the four points this weekend in what should be a tough fiery contest that will see both clubs leave it all out on the field. With the ledger squared in 2015 both
sides will be looking for bragging rights to finish the season. Narooma will continue to blood their youngsters into their senior team to
give their young players some much needed experience for the 2016 season.
Player to Watch– Rowan Hawkey. The playing coach stood up last time these sides met in their Narooma win.
Under 16’s
The Panthers have shown throughout the season that they are the second best side in the Under 16’s competition this year and will
be looking to reaffirm that title when they take on the Bombers this weekend. With a number of players including Tom Ferguson,
Angus Kennedy-Carvalho and Billy Bamford gaining experience within the Panthers senior side this will not only help them this weekend but also in their endeavours to dethrone Narooma come finals time. In the second match Narooma will look to continue their
dominance within the 16’s competition as they host the Diggers this weekend. After a goal kicking clinic last weekend Jai Reed now
leads the goal kicking as he doesn't look like slowing down over the tail end of the season.
Under 13’s
In the match of the round Bermagui will take on Narooma at Bill Smyth Memorial Oval as they look to continue their splendid form
where they defeated Merimbula last week and pushed Pambula for four quarters the week before. The Lions who defeated Bega last
weekend will be looking to continue their improvement in 2015 and edge level with Bermagui as they take on the Breakers on home
turf. Merimbula will be looking to bounce back after their tough loss last weekend against the Breakers as they take on the Giants
away from home this weekend. The Giants have improved throughout the season and will be looking to jump off the base of the table
with some good results towards the end of the season. Bega take on Pambula this weekend and if the Bombers are able to contain
Kynan Baker and Flynn Cook the Bombers should be able to give the Panthers a run for their money this weekend.
Under 11’s
With both teams sitting on 12 points the winner of this clash will see the winner edge closer too Pambula sitting in second position on
the ladder. Both sides have had some mixed results in 2015 although both sides have shown great growth throughout the season
improving on their results week in week out. With Narooma having some impressive results at home behind Kurtis Carlson and Matthew Parker leading the way, Bermagui will have to bring their A game this weekend if they are to cause an upset with their youthful
squad.
