JURORS
The Juror for the visual art genre will be Charles
Rodriquez of Mackinaw City. Charles Rodriguez lives
and paints in the Northern Michigan Area. He has been
in the field of art for over 60 years and enjoys every
minute of it. He is a superb draftsman who not only
respects the technical but encourages the emotional
aspects of the arts. “I judge a painting by letting it speak
to me. I respond to those that seem to touch me on a
personal level. The ‘wow factor’ is important. I try not
to have any preconceived notions. I look for elements
of design that have been used by artists for years. Good
overall design of the work. Values - strong lights and
darks. Good craftsmanship, of course. And, the use of
color, not just for colors sake but part of the overall
scheme of the painting. I know that I will enjoy looking
at all the entries and will do my best for the show.”
The Juror for the literary genre will be Peg Herring
of Onaway. Peg Herring is a writer who left teaching
in 2002 to pursue full-time writing. An accomplished
author, Peg has published novels, plays, short stories
and articles. She loves words, whether written or
spoken. However, they have to be strung together
well or it drives her crazy. These days, in addition to
writing, Peg speaks to groups on the writing process,
reading genres, and public speaking. When not writing,
directing musical groups or gardening, she and her
husband enjoy traveling, both abroad and in the United
States.
