We the people of the United States, in order to…

promote the general welfare
secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves
and our posterity
What does it mean?
The Framers believed the states needed to agree to operate as a
single country and cooperate on major issues.
Provides a national system of courts to protect the people’s rights,
and to hear cases involving violations of federal law and disputes
between the states.
Keeping the peace among the people and between the states.
The federal government has the power to maintain armed forces to
protect the country and its citizens from attack.
Protects the well-being of the people by maintaining order, protecting
individual liberties, regulating commerce and bankruptcies, and
promoting science and technology, by granting patent, etc.
Guarantees that no American’s basic rights will be taken away
now or for posterity or generations to come.
Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
