-If you have a Cloverbud (K-2nd grade) in your family there is a
great program called ‘Little Miss and Little Mister 4-H’ that includes several days of fun events including a program at the fair.
The great thing is that this is designed for Cloverbuds by Cloverbuds! For more information check out our website here: http://

-Camp Kinnissippewa is still taking applications. This program is an
overnight camp for 3rd-8th grade youth. More information can be
found here: http://trempealeau.uwex.edu/4-h-programs/campkinnissippewa/. There were issues with 4H Online earlier which
meant that many of you could not find it as an option for event
registration. This issue has been resolved so sign up today! If for
any reason you are having issues signing up for Camp K please email
me and we will handle it!
-There is also still time to sign up for our Pinewood Derby event
‘Racing for a Reason. Information can be found inside the newsletter but signups end this Friday so don’t delay!

Club Minutes
Meeting was called to order on March 6th, 2017 by Alexi.
New members were welcome; Olivia White, Gunnar Johnson
Thank you for Lyn Rolbiecki for the Foods Review Presentation last month
Congratulations to the Foods Review Participants; Brianne, Hailey, Amy, Maggie, Mary, Sam, Brooke,
and Claire.
We recapped the Bruce Mound Tubing trip along with the Club FUN Day. Lyn and all the participants
went through the food review. March Club Fun Day will be held on the 26 th at Shenanigans.
We discussed the Fair Barn Decorations and theme for this year. We also discussed lawn mowing
for this summer and what we are going to do with the mower. Reminder on the 4 th Annual “Racing For
A Reason” Pinewood Derby Race will be held on April 23rd. Following we went through and discussed
the 2017 Little Miss/Mister Clover. Brianne discussed her experience.
To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day everyone was encouraged to wear as many green items as possible.
Green was everywhere. The winner had on 42 different items. We also completed 5 tie blankets
for our community project which will go to High School and Middle School students that are in need
at G-E-T. We have plenty more to do but they still need preparation.

On Saturday, April 1st, it was the 27th Annual Monroe County 4-H Fur, Fin, and Feather Show. Cover bud / Explorers have their own entries. Youth members can show poultry, eggs, cats, rabbits, and showmanship in each.
For cats I took Butterfly, an adult calico, and Princess Turk a kitten tabby. Butterfly got really upset making it
hard to show her. She placed 2nd out of about 6 adults. Princess Turk was much better. She let the judge handle
her and let me show the judge how to pick her up and to check her ears and mouth. The judge checks for
trimmed nails, clean ears and overall body condition. Princess Turk placed 1st out of 3 kittens and then took best
of show! For best of show your points for showmanship and your overall cat care are added together!
I also show my rabbits. One of my senior Californian does, I showed 2, placed 1st in her category. All the first
place Califorian does in each age group then went against each other. My doe took Best of Breed! So then at the
end of the day all the best of show does go back in front of 2 judges. There were 25 or so breeds there. My doe
beat all the others to take Best of show! It was a very fun day!

Club Minutes
The March meeting of the Silver Creek Valley 4-H Club was called to order on March 12th. Roll call
was taken and there were eleven members present. Pledges were led by Carley Lawry and Melanie Robinson. Secretary’s report was read by Sierra Braun and was approved as read. Treasurer’s report was read,
Cole Tupper motioned to approve, and Brady Seiling seconded, motion carried. For Old Business We had
the Foods Review, the MAQAs, and the swine and sheep weigh ins. For new business there was Camp Kinnissippewa enrollment is now open. Also for new business the 4-H dairy judging practice start-up is March
18th, Pinewood Derby race on April 23rd, area animal science days are June 22nd, Youth Livestock Education
Event at Ettrick Elementary March 25th, and finally dog obedience classes will be starting soon. The next
meeting will be held on April 9th at 4pm at the Galesville Town Hall. Michael Kreger moved to adjourn and
Gavin Smikrud seconded, motion carried. Meeting was adjourned.
Lincoln Pioneers Meeting March 12, 2017 4 p.m. Fire Station
The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by Treasurer, Alicia Schmitt, in the absence of president, vice
president and secretary. Pledges were led by Catherine and Sophia Kampa. Kim forgot to print off the secretary report and couldn’t access them. We will begin to email the reports out to all and approve at meetings. Treasury Report was read by Alicia for both January and February. Motion to approve both month’s
reports by Morgan, seconded by Catherine, all approve, accepted.
Attendance was taken by saying what was good or new. We recognized several birthdays and sang to all.
Old Business
Butter Braid wrap up- we sold 400 Butter Braids for a total profit of $2000. The top two selling families were
each given $20 gift certificates to Troy’s Gas and Grub. They were Vanessa Adank, selling 56 items and
Morgan and Mason Przybylla, selling 49 items. Coming in a close were the Jasin family selling 48 and
Kurth’s selling 47! General comments about the fundraiser were positive; it’s an easy product to sell and
there weren’t any other groups in our area selling. We’ll be sending a letter to the Olson family, thanking
them for handling the bait sales at the Independence Ice Fishing contest. The group was paid for their
work. Tubing at Bruce Mound on Feb 16 was a hit! We will send a thank you card to the Leaders Board
thanking them for the fun night. Final Animal Shelter day will be April 22 (Kim will email a reminder as the
time nears). Members were reminded of MAQA and educational events which are coming up- be on the
lookout. April 1 is the deadline for membership and project sign up on 4HOnline. All members were reminded to do a demonstration.
New Business
Kim asked if anyone be interested in going to the nursing home with some baby /small animals. There was
minimal interest, but Kim will still pursue this and communicate it to the club. Bird house sales will begin
soon. Kim will bring fliers to the April meeting for members to hang up in public places. No individual efforts
will be needed from members/families. A reminder that May 20 at Pietrek Park, will be a county wide Spring
Clover College type event. Watch the newsletter for sign up and info. Club will pay for this. Camp K. sign up
is now open for 3 grade and up including counselors. See newsletter, requesting funding through the Leader’s board is encouraged to reduce financial obligations to the family. Pinewood Derby is going to be held
on April 23. We talked a little about this and several members showed interest. Independence Days is on
June 9 and 10. We will be asking for a food shift stand time. This is also the same day as the Dairy breakfast, after discussion, it was decided that we will ask the older members to cover the food stand in Independence and younger members/families can cover the dairy breakfast shift. Kim will contact Kay W. to
request a clean-up shift as this worked really well for our young group last year. We reminded everyone
that each family will need to cover a shift at the fair food stand, city event food stand or fair building supervision. This was decided on early in the
4-H year. Our meeting flags are in poor condition. A motion to
purchase a new set of flags by Morgan, seconded by Catherine, all in favor, motion carried. Kim will take
care of this.
Our next meeting will take place on April 9 at 4 p.m., there will be a likely arts and craft event prior at approx. 2 p.m. Location is yet to be determined. Please watch for details as the time nears.
Motion to adjourn meeting by Morgan, seconded by Sophia. Meeting adjourned at 5 pm.
Morgan did a demonstration on her Parrotlet, Sky.
Swine education was provided by Jennifer Nordgaard.

Old Business:
Fair ground improvements-Ava made a motion to keep grass arena and amend the proposal to the fair
board to include this and to place the new structure next to the where the old structure was. Zoey second, motion passed. Connie to bring to the fair board meeting.
Plans for New Barn proposal from Brickle Brothers Builders reviewed by Connie. Fair board and
Shawn Tscanz to measure fair grounds.

4H Horse Project - Zoey made a motion to get wood and Jaydin to complete project. All were in favor,
approved signage for Jaydin to complete project. She will purchase 2 boards and start working on this in
her woods class at the Independence High School. Will submit bill after purchase.
Leader review:
Animal Science Days, June 22nd at the Galesville fairgrounds-all in favor, planning committee meeting on
March 6th at the courthouse for those who are interested.
Adjournment- Zoey made a motion to adjourn, Catherine second, motion carried. Next meeting March 12th,
12:00 Soppa Barn. Business meeting and Coggins clinic and hoof trimming clinic. Bronco bux earned for
bringing horses! Free riding if enough room in the arena. Bring up to 2 horse camp t-shirt designs for 2017.
Design must be free hand drawn, no lined paper, and no tracing or computer images. Design must say
“Trempealeau County 4-H Project 2017” to be eligible. This meeting is a pot luck. Project to bring plates and
silverware and main meat. This year, will bring hot dogs and buns for main meat.

Get Outdoors Day
Trempealeau County’s
First Annual
Get Outdoors Day!
Where: Pietrek Park
When: May 20th 9am-2pm
This event will be similar to our Clover College program
in the fall but will focus on getting outdoors, exploring,
and having fun in nature.
We are finalizing the program schedule and will email
out the details before April 15th.
This program is open to all Trempealeau County youth.
Let your friends know and have them come to see all the
cool things they can do in 4-H!
The cost of this program will be $5 per person for
the day which will include a pizza lunch!

Cloverbud FUN Day of Bowling at Westgate Lanes in Winona
The 2016 Little Miss/Mister Contestants would like to invite the Trempealeau County Cloverbuds to join us for a FUN day of Bowling and a Community Service Project. The Cloverbud Community Service Project will benefit the Trempealeau County Humane Society.
We are asking those that attend, to bring along items from the Humane Society’s "Wish
List"
These items include: Bleach, Paper Towels, Gift Cards to Menards/Sam's Club/Gas, Sanitizing
Wipes, Dog or Cat Food (any QUALITY brand), Magic Erasers, Durable Dog Toys, Rawhides
Who: ALL Trempealeau County Cloverbuds (ages Kindergarten through 2nd Grade)
What: Cloverbud FUN Event and Community Service Project

Let’s Go Racing!
Have you ever wanted to make and race a Pinewood Derby Car? Perhaps you haven’t even
heard of a one before, but are interested in trying a new Woodworking Project for the Fair? Participated in the last couple of years, had FUN, and want to do it again? The Glasgow-Hardies Creek
Busy Bees would like to extend an invitation to all 4-H’ers in Trempealeau County to participate in
the…
4th Annual “Racing For A Reason” Pinewood Derby Race.
New for 2017: We will have an Adult Division! Adult Registration will be $15.00.
Purpose: Give 4-H Youth the opportunity to complete a woodworking project, be part of an activity
that benefits local Veterans, learn/demonstrate sportsmanship, and have FUN!!
When: Sunday, April 23rd 2017
Where: Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Middle School Cafeteria
Time: Noon – 12:30 p.m. Registration/Weigh-In and Racing Begins at 1:00 p.m.
(Tentative start time, depending on the number of participants. Email conformation will be sent)
Cost: $10.00 for Youth & $15 for Adults (includes a Pinewood Derby Kit & Registration Fee)
Proceeds benefit local Veterans through the Veteran’s Service group of Trempealeau County!

*No Modifications may be made to the Car’s Length, Wheels or Axels (rough areas on wheels may

*All 4 Wheels must touch the Track.
*Please use Car provided, previously made cars (i.e. Scouts) will not be accepted.
*Poor sportsmanship may result in the loss of your Placing and may exclude you from further
races!
*Parents, this is your 4-H’ers Project… please guide them but let this be THEIR Project!!

Do you like science, technology or engineering? Would you like to engage in cool, hands-on scientific experiments? If so, then the IW2K! STEM Camp is for you!
Camp check-in begins at 5:30 pm on Friday, May 5th, with programming starting promptly at 6:30 pm. Camp
ends at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 6th. This camp is open to all youth in grades 6-8! Youth do not have to be
a 4-H member to apply!
Cost: $70 – includes all meals, lodging and t-shirt
Deadline to register: April 14, 2017. Space is limited to the first 50 applicants.

4H International Family Host
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to open your home and life to the exciting world of international exchanges? Learning about other cultures and countries and sharing your cultures and traditions can be done in your own home by hosting a year-long student through Wisconsin 4-H. Please
contact us to discuss this great opportunity that awaits!
Students that participate in the Wisconsin 4-H Exchange Program are between the ages of 15 – 18, and
will be sophomores, juniors or seniors in high school. They come from Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Servia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine through the
FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange Program) run by our U.S. Department of State. We also place Japanese, Korean and Mexican students through the LEX, LABO and BFE. Delegate information is available
upon request.

Calling ALL Cloverbuds…
Time To Enjoy!
Come and join 2016 Little Miss/Mister Contestants for a day of Creativity and FUN on May 21, 2017 at the 1st Presbyterian Church (20237 W.
Ridge Avenue in Galesville) from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. This will be a FUN
Day spent with your Trempealeau County 4-H Cloverbud friends!! We will
be playing games to get to know one another.
As well as making a couple projects… TO KEEP, and much more!
The cost will be $5.00 per person.
With creativity can come a little mess, so make sure you dress appropriately!! A light snack will also be provided.

4-H Programs and Events
Area Animal Science Days (AASD)
Regional animal science educational opportunities available to Wisconsin 4-H members. Specifically, Area Animal Science Days is a series of four day-long events held around the state in
June where youth in the beef, dairy, horse, sheep and swine projects increase their decision
making skills and knowledge of animals through judging and grading experiences. Events include evaluation of dairy cattle, horses and meat animals; dairy showmanship contests; hippology (the study of horses); and oral reasons workshops. In addition, each site offers a variety
of workshops for small animal projects, which may include rabbits, poultry, dogs, cats or llamas.
AASD strives:
 To increase the availability of educational opportunities in the 4-H Animal Science Projects.
 To increase decision making skills through judging and grading experiences.
 To increase the knowledge of animals through breeding and market evaluation and management information.

Shooting Sports
We just completed an amazing
archery season here in Trempealeau County with over 40
participants between our fundamentals and advanced
groups.
A huge thank you to our shooting sports volunteers, the
Ettrick Rod & Gun Club and the
Leaders’ Association for helping make this a great program!
If you are interested in this program for next year then keep an eye out next
fall for more information. The program is open to any youth in 3rd grade and up
and at least 8 years old.
If you are an adult who is interested in helping out please let us know. If you

There is a new requirement for any youth who was selected for one of
the trips listed below to spend at least two total hours working in the
food stand sometime during the Trempealeau County Fair.
The proceeds from the food stand directly fund youth trips and serving a
shift is an important part of giving back to your community. This can be
during your normally scheduled club shift or some other time. Information
will be sent out in the summer to choose the dates and times you will be
working. Preference for the following year’s trip and award selection will
be given to those who meet this requirement.

Livestock Premise ID Registration
Livestock premise need to be updated with the Wisconsin Livestock Identification consortium. If you registered your premise before July of 2016 it has expired. If you registered July or later in 2016, you will not need to re-register.
If you keep any of the following livestock species:











bovine (bison, dairy and beef cattle)
equine (horses, donkeys, mules)
goats
poultry (chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea fowl, and squab)
captive game birds (pheasants, quail, wild turkeys, migratory wildfowl, pigeons, and exotic birds,)
sheep
swine (other than wild hogs but including pot belly pigs)
farm raised deer (elk, moose, caribou, reindeer, and the subfamily musk deer)
camelids (llamas, alpacas)
ratites (rheas, ostriches, emu, cassowary, kiwi)
fish (aquaculture farm)
But do not include:

cats

Leaders’ Board
Trempealeau County Leaders’ Board Executive Meeting
Feb 27, 2017, 6:00 p.m.

Meeting called to order at 6:07 p.m. by Secretary (in the absence of President and Vice President), Kim Przybylla
American and 4-H pledges were led by Katie Erickson, 4-H Member.
Secretary’s Report- Adam sent this to all members. No one had any additions or edits. Motion to accept by Rosa,
seconded by Bob, all approved, motion carried.
Treasurer Report-United Bank has a balance of $6409.67 All bill are paid to date with the exception of some
bills from Gordy’s Market, these are being reviewed for accuracy. Motion to accept treasure report as stated by
Isabelle seconded by Bob, all approved, motion carried.

Sawyer need not be present for less than $30 request, forms filled out satisfactorily by Leader’s Board. Motion
to approve funding of $25 by Kim, seconded by Isabelle, all approve, motion passed.
We will table the approval of Pat and Heather’s request until the next meeting - it is unsure if chaperones are
still being accepted. Forms will be on hand for next LB meeting.
Shooting sports targets to be paid from line item. Motion to approve by Lori, seconded by Rosa, all approve, Bob
abstained, motion passed.

Enrollment - county enrollment is up compared to years past
Spring outdoor program - May 20 - sign up will begin in April
County Program updates
Fest. of Arts - complete and will move to later spring next year to hopefully improve attendance. Although low
numbers, the format seemed to work out nicely allowing more audience participation.
Shooting Sports - about 40 participants in the beginning and advanced levels. Hope to implement a mentorship
program, there are 5 adult volunteers, strong program that should sustain itself nicely for years to come.

Leaders’ Board
Bruce Mound evening was a success with an estimated 100 participants. This ended up costing $275 with excellent
accommodations.
Area Animal Science Days, June 22. Planning seems to be going well
Rocketry to begin on Wednesdays in mid-April
Summer Conservation camp will replace Science camp this year. In conjunction with the Environmental and Land
Use County committee.
Disc Order follow up - continue to be a delay, formatting issues per company.
Old Business - (Meeting taken over by Vice President, Heather)
Youth Conference chaperones update: Lori will be a medical chaperone, therefore making her 100% available to
anyone at the conference, Rosa will likely be attending as a State Team chaperone. Adam will inform Brian that he
will likely be needed.
Isabelle applied for communications team - she was informed that she has been accepted
CPR training is available at a very minimal cost of $10 though Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics. Lori is
taking the class on March 9, she has been asked to be on a Eau Claire bus for medical chaperone purposes.
State Fair Banner - we are moving along with this - Rosa will bring graphic proofs to the next meeting.
Plat Books - nothing new to report at this time
Little Miss/Mister Cloverbud program - Heather has been in contact with last year’s contestants, she is working
on a community service project.
We will be putting a Funding request time frame together for the May 20 Spring event. Sign up for funding requests will be handled as any other session. Three LB members needed to hear these.
Buttons for trip goers- Kim has not looked into this yet and requested to be postponed until next meeting
Racing for Reason date is still tentative for April 23
Charlie and Jeanette continue to work on Treasury transfer.
Heather mentioned that we never finished up with the record book prizes. As promised the LB needs to award a
$10 check drawn at random for first time book makers, a $25 check drawn at random for all book makers, a pizza
party for the club with the most improved percentage of book makers from the year before and an ice cream party for clubs having 50% of the club doing a book. The following motion was made by Kim: Approve the $10 and
$25 checks, up to $75 for the pizza party (club arranging with receipt to county office) and $1/member for the
ice cream party (based on enrollment). This was seconded by Bob, approved by all, motion passed.
New Business
During Foods review discussion in Educators report, it was mentioned that when members sign up for pre-fair
events on the fair website (County shoot, Foods review, etc) their fair entry will be due at that time. They will
then be paid for the fair entry in June. Leaders who’s clubs pay for the fair are encouraged to work with and talk
to Cindy.
A request from AASD for use of the 4-H food stand on June 22 from Cindy George. This event is catered. Motion
to grant request by Isabelle, second by Rosa, approved by all, motion passed.
Special request member financial funding.
Members mother approached the board- after much discussion a proposal was reached. This was motioned by Kim,
seconded by Rosa and a raised hand vote of 4 in favor, one against, one abstained was reached, motion passed.
A second circumstance was brought forth. For this request, we interpreted and reinforced our bylaw rules. It was
felt that this request will be handled by enforcing the by-law. No further action needed.
We received our Tremp. Co Fair sponsorship form- we will look at this next meeting to decide on our sponsorship
level.
Any other new business- none
Conclusion- Meeting concluded at 7:59 p.m. Motion to adjourn by Jeanette and second by Bob. We will meet again
on March 27, 6:00 p.m. at the Trempealeau County Courthouse, Tremplo Room.

Leader’s Board Funding Request Process:
We are publishing the funding request information and form. With new people always coming into the 4
-H program, we want everyone aware of the process to request funds for 4-H camps, trips, and educational activities. This information can also be found on the Trempealeau County website. Please read
through at your convenience.
Instructions-Funding Request Form
The Trempealeau County 4-H Leaders Executive Board includes money in their budget to help defray
some costs of 4-H educational trips or activities in which Trempealeau County 4-H members and leaders participate. The amount the Association is able to contribute in a given year depends on the success
of fund raising efforts, the amounts spent in other budget areas, and the number of applicants and level of requests.
A “Funding Request Form” has been developed for use when an individual or group is requesting monetary support. Only 4-H Sponsored Events will be considered for reimbursement. Use of the form will
provide a consistent, concise approach for obtaining information. Once the Committee engages in discussion relative to the request, the requestor may be asked to leave the meeting and will be notified by
phone or mail of the Committee’s decision.
The 4-H Leaders Executive Board will evaluate the request and the applicant is asked to follow the
guidelines listed below. Currently, the Leaders Executive Board meets every month except December.
The form should be completed and turned in to the Extension office prior to the Executive Board
meeting and prior to participation in the trip or activity.
Please answer all questions completely so your request receives full attention. Individuals that receive
over $100.00 for a single event are expected to make a live presentation/action center or visual display
at one or more of the following events: Performing Arts Festival, Clover College, County Fair and/or
Summer Picnic. We would like individuals who receive funding for State Teams or major award trips to
help encourage participation in these activities. Participants may be asked to present information about
their experience following the trip or activity. The cost of events not specifically sponsored or cosponsored by 4-H or the Trempealeau County 4-H Leaders Executive Board will not be reimbursed. A
general club leader's signature is required before sending in the request form to the extension office.

For reimbursement of money:





$30.00 and under ~ Completed “Funding Request Form” sent to the UW-Extension office 7 days prior to Executive Board Meeting and optional in person request at the monthly Leaders Executive
Board Meeting.
30.01 and above ~ Completed “Funding Request Form” sent to the UW-Extension office 7 days prior
to Executive Board Meeting and required personal appearance request at the monthly Leaders Executive Board Meeting.
A maximum of 50% will be considered for reimbursement of expenses incurred for youth.
Trempealeau County Certified Chaperones’ expenses will be reimbursed upon completion of the form
and if all other requirements have been met.
All Reimbursement of expenses are at the discretion of the Executive Board
