Minor principals

Minor principal characters: with solos/ small ensemble numbers *, vocal range & dance level.
1. There are some characters who should be specifically male or female but we would consider accepting either (M/F).
2. Vocal range key: middle C (low for women, high for men) = C4, higher than middle C=C5, lower than middle C=C3
3. The vocal ranges given are for major solos only, most principle characters will also be expected to sing with the chorus as
soprano/ alto/ tenor or baritone.
* See details of solos in separate document.
Please look at the separate document for costume notes.
Please note: the distribution of solo lines/ songs for principal parts in our final show could be different from professional shows which you
may have seen.

Asparagus / Gus The theatre cat. One of the oldest tribe members. He
was once an actor. Gus has one solo and also sings in many of the chorus
songs. Possibly with a hint of a Yorkshire accent.......
Bustopher Jones A fat cat, a "twenty-five pounder." Dresses in a snappy
tuxedo and spats. Respected by all, as the upper class "St. James's Street
Cat". Bustopher Jones has one solo and also sings in some of the chorus
songs.
Jenny Anydots The old Gumbie cat. A character part. She sits all day and
rules the mice and cockroaches at night. She could have one or two solo
songs, depending on casting, but singing is not essential.
Macavity The show's only real villain. He is ‘tall & thin’. Stage fighting
& movement ability would be very helpful! Macavity appears as himself
at various times through the show and the role could be combined with
chorus.

Mungojerrie The male half of a pair of notorious cat-burglars. A
mischievous, energetic kitten who always gets into trouble with his
partner-in-crime, Rumpleteazer. (They are most commonly remembered
for their featured dance number where at the end, they do a "double
windmill" across the stage so tumbling skills a plus!) Solo singing ability
would be a bonus but acrobatic/ tumbling experience most important.
Mungojerrie will however need to be able to sing in some chorus songs.
