Configuring Windows XP for the TAFESA-Internet Wireless Network DFEEST ICT Services Configuring Windows XP for the TAFESA-Internet Wireless Network Please ensure you have the following ready before you commence: • • Your laptop or tablet PC plugged into power The laptop or tablet PC is NOT connected to any network(s) via cables. ** Any wireless device should be able to automatically connect to the TAFESA-Internet wireless network by selecting the network and detecting the settings. If your device does not support this feature please follow the instructions contained in this guide. ** To access the internet you will need to configure a proxy server within your web browser software. Please visit http://portal.tafesa.edu.au/internet to obtain the required settings. 1) Login to your laptop or tablet PC with your network username and password. 2) From the taskbar in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, right click on the wireless network icon as shown in the picture below and select ‘View Available Wireless Networks’. Page 2 of 19 For General Distribution 3) From the ‘Wireless Network Connection’ screen select ‘Change Advanced Settings’. 4) From the ‘Wireless Network Connection Properties’ configuration screen select ‘Wireless Networks’ to commence configuring the wireless network. Page 3 of 19 For General Distribution 5) Select ‘Add’ to create a wireless network profile. 6) Enter the details as shown below and then select the ‘Authentication’ tab: • ‘Network Name SSID’ – ‘TAFESA-Internet’ • ‘Security Type’ – ‘WPA2’ • ‘Encryption Type’ – ‘AES’ • Ensure ‘ Connect even if the network is not broadcasting’ is checked Page 4 of 19 For General Distribution 7) Select ‘Protected EAP (PEAP) as the ‘EAP Type’ and deselect ‘Authenticate as computer when computer information is available’ and then select ‘Properties’. 8) Ensure ‘Validate Server Certificate’ is deselected and from the ‘Trusted Root Certificate Authorities:’ box, ensure any certificates are deselected and then select ‘Configure’. Page 5 of 19 For General Distribution 9) From the ‘EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties’ ensure ‘Automatically use my Windows logon name…’ is delselected and select OK and OK again to complete the configuration. 10) Windows will now attempt to connect you to the TAFESA-Internet wireless network. You will be prompted with a screen similar to that below. Click on the balloon to enter your network username and password. 11) Enter your TAFESA computer network username (Student ID) and password in the box as shown below leaving the ‘Domain’ field blank and then select OK. You will then be connected to the TAFESA-Internet wireless network. Page 8 of 19 For General Distribution 14) From the ‘Network and Sharing Center’ screen select ‘Manage Wireless Networks’. 15) From the ‘Manage Wireless Networks…’ configuration screen select ‘Add…’ to commence configuring the wireless network. Page 9 of 19 For General Distribution 16) Select ‘Manually create a network profile’. 17) Enter the details as shown below and then select ‘Next’: • ‘Network Name’ – TAFESA-Internet. • ‘Security Type’ – ‘WPA2-Enterprise’ • ‘Encryption Type’ – ‘AES’ Page 10 of 19 For General Distribution 18) The configuration will be applied as configured in the previous step. To continue configuring advanced settings select ‘Change connection settings’. 19) From the ‘TAFESA-Internet Wireless Network Properties’ select the security TAB. Page 11 of 19 For General Distribution 20) Select ‘Settings’ alongside ‘Choose a network authentication method’. 21) Ensure ‘Validate Server Certificate’ is deselected and also deselect any certificates in the ‘Trusted Root Certificate Authorities:’ box and select ‘Configure’ located next to the ‘Select Authentication Method’ dialog box. Page 12 of 19 For General Distribution 22) Ensure the check box is deselected for ‘Automatically use my Windows logon…’ and select OK and then OK again. 23) From the ‘TAFESA-Internet Wireless Network Properties’ select ‘Advanced Settings’. Page 13 of 19 For General Distribution 24) Ensure the following settings are configured under ‘802.1x Settings’: • ‘Specify Authentication Mode’ – Checked • ‘User Authentication’ – Selected 25) Select ‘Replace Credentials’ and enter your TAFESA network username and password and select OK and OK to complete the configuration. If your device does not support this feature please follow the instructions contained in this guide. ** ICT Services recommend you perform a backup of your iPhone before proceeding with the steps outlined in this guide. ** To access the internet you will need to configure a proxy server for the network connection. Please visit http://portal.tafesa.edu.au/internet to obtain the required settings. 26) Unlock your iPhone or iPad screen. 27) From the home screen, as shown below, select ‘Settings’. Page 16 of 19 For General Distribution 28) From the ‘Settings’ screen select the ‘Wi-Fi’ 29) From the ‘Wi-Fi’ configuration screen select ‘Other…’ to commence configuring wireless. Page 17 of 19 For General Distribution 30) Enter the network SSID name ‘TAFESA-Internet’ as shown below and then select ‘Security’ to continue. 31) From the ‘Security’ screen select ‘WPA2 Enterprise’ as the security method and then select ‘Other Network’ to continue configuration. Page 18 of 19 For General Distribution 32) On the ‘Other Network’ screen, enter your network username (e.g. student ID) and password used to connect to the TAFESA computer network and then select ‘Join’. 33) The iPhone will then proceed to verify your details and configure the wireless network.
