What’s to come…
Reading: We have spent this week in Reading
learning about Greek mythology, specifically
“the Midas touch” and “Achilles heel.” This is
all part of understanding allusions. Authors
use allusions when they want to indirectly
reference a person, place or thing. Next week
we will learn about a “Herculean task” and a
“Trojan horse.” As we read multiple texts
with allusions, we also work on finding the
meaning of unknown words.
Math: Students were introduced to place
value up to the ten-thousands this week. We
have practiced representing, saying, comparing,
and ordering these large numbers. Next week,
we will continue these skills and practice
rounding large numbers. This is a difficult
skill for many 4th graders.
Science: We have had a lot of fun this week
learning about the Scientific Method.
Students have experimented with gummy
bears and combined backing soda with vinegar
for a fun ending. On Monday we will begin
our unit on the history of planet earth.
Save the Date:
-Tomorrow: Team #poniesrpresent attendance challenge kickoff; first
fundraiser kicks off
-Fri., Aug. 26: Reading assessment
