Marian Central Inducts 48 New Members into its Spanish Honor Society
Woodstock, IL – Marian Central Catholic High School proudly announces the induction of 48
new members into its Los Reyes Católicos (The Catholic Kings) chapter of the Sociedad
Honoraria Hispánica on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. The candle ceremony was lead by current
honor society officers in Spanish. Second and third year members were also recognized for their
continued studies and dedication to the Spanish language. After the ceremony, inductees and
current members enjoyed an authentic meal in the cafeteria.
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese founded this Spanish Honor
Society in 1953 for the students of North American secondary schools. The Marian Central
chapter was established in 1991. The chapter is named in honor of Fernando and Isabel of Spain,
who patronized Columbus in his exploration of the west and his discovery of the Americas. The
chapter’s motto is, “Todos juntos” or “All together,” and the official colors are red and gold.
The purpose of the society is to recognize the high achievement of high school students in the
Spanish and Portuguese languages and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic and
Portuguese studies. The 2017 inductees are:
