Surrey Youth Games Success
Zoë Brewin, Neve Goodall and Eva Stammers were
successful in being selected for the U11 netball team to
represent Epsom and Ewell at the Surrey Youth Games
held last weekend.
After coming top in their pool the battling Epsom team
narrowly missed out for a place in the final but won their
3/4 place match to take a well deserved bronze medal.
All those hours of training with Miss Davison are
obviously paying off!
team in the finals where they emerged runners-up,
losing closely (3-2 overall) to Reigate & Banstead, but
winning Maja a silver medal of which she is very proud.
Grace O'Dell and Nicholas Geoffrey were selected for
the tennis squad for their age group. They were chosen
for their commitment to the training sessions, their
positive attitude and behaviour as well as their
tennis skills. Congratulations to them both for placing 8th
out of 12 teams, even though it was the first time Grace
had played Tennis before!
Alfie Dobson, Luke Vamos and Jakub Quigley came
third for Epsom and Ewell in the judo matches on
Sunday 19th June. Another accomplishment for St.
Martin’s, especially as Alfie entered the Judo games
after receiving information from a previous issue of the
St. Martin’s Junior Newsletter!
Maja Leese was selected to play for the Epsom &
Ewell under 10 squash team, in the annual Surrey Youth
Games, which took place in Guildford last Saturday 18th
June. As the number 1 seed for the girls, she won three
of her four games in the group stages helping to put her
Dance Festival Performance
Congratulations to our Dance Festival performers who danced their hearts out this week at Epsom Playhouse. We
are so proud of their amazing dedication and enthusiasm both at the Playhouse and rehearsals. They will be
performing at the Summer Fair if you wish to come and see our talented dancers and the potential of some very
bright futures.
Our thanks go to all who have supported the children this far, with special thanks to Eva Stammers’s Grandad, who
made the superb treasure chest, as well as India, for choreographing the dance routines.
With thanks and much pride,
Mrs Marchesi and Miss Davison

A Few Key Events at the Summer
Fair:
Hat parade - any child who wants to take
part in the parade will need to make or
decorate a hat on the theme of 'summer'.
Bring it along to the fair, take part in the
parade (for a small fee of 50p), and be part
of the competition to judge the best hat on
the day!
Raffle tickets - you will have received
these now in your child's book bags.
Please return all ticket stubs (for those that
have been sold), along with the money
raised, and any unsold tickets, to the office
by Wednesday 29th June. The draw will be
done after school on Monday 4th July. All
winners will be contacted that day.
'Draw your headteacher competition' - if
your child would like to enter this
competition please hand in their picture of
Mr Twells or Mrs Hutchinson, along with
their 50p entrance fee, to the office by
Monday 29th June. The school council will
judge which portrait is the best and award
prizes on the day of the fair.
Cake decorating competition - if you would
like to enter this competition bring your
cakes (either one big cake or 6 cupcakes),
along on the day of the fair. After the prize
has been awarded for the best-dressed
cake - the cakes will be given away in a
prize draw: for a small fee anyone will be
able to vote for which cake they think is the
best on the day, and then be entered into
the draw to win the cake that they voted for. Anything goes so all you champion cake decorators out there (children
and adults alike) - get your creative juices flowing!!

Once again a huge thank you to everyone who is helping to
make these events a success- we couldn't do it without you!
Have great weekend and let's cross our fingers for sunshine
on the 2nd!!
The PTFA
During the last weekend in June, Epsom and Ewell will become a creative hub celebrating the Borough’s
first ever Arts Festival.
The festival name, MGSO4, has been inspired by the chemical formula for Epsom Salts (magnesium
sulphate) which first made the area famous almost 400 years ago.
The event programme is set to include live performances, workshops, exhibitions, outdoor events, a flashmob and, of course, the readers from the ‘Our Town’ children’s poetry competition.
There will also be guest appearances from contemporary artists, such as: Michael Frayn, a Ewell raised
novelist and playwright; Nicholas McCarthy, a Royal College of Music graduate and Epsom raised
pianist who has performed alongside Coldplay and guest presented the BBC Proms; Mike Batt, a British
songwriter, musician, producer, director and conductor, best known for creating The Wombles pop act,
writing the chart topping song ‘Bright Eyes’ and discovering Katie Melua; Instant Sunshine, a musical
comedy group best known for their performances on BBC radio; Elly Wright, who was nominated for
Surrey Artist of the Year 2015 for her colourful landscape interpretations; and Claire Burgess, the
children’s author who wrote the popular Early Reader book ‘Lottie and Dottie’.
Many of the events at the first ever MGSO4 festival will be free but do check the event you are interested
to be sure. You can find detailed information about all the featured events by clicking here.
We hope to see the children, parents and staff throughout the weekend of MGSO4 in a celebration of all
things artistic!
