Game No. 47/48 • Road Game No. 25 / Home Game No. 23 • Frawley Stadium • Friday, May 26, 2017 • 5:35 p.m.
BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN
HOME: 11-11 | AWAY: 12-12 | STREAK: L 1 | LAST 5: 3-2 | LAST 10: 7-3
WASHED OUT: The Wilmington Blue Rocks were rained out for the fourth time this
season on Thursday when the series finale against Lynchburg was postponed. The
Rocks now welcome the Potomac Nationals to town and resume the May 18 suspended
game and then play a seven-inning game afterwards. RHP Andres Machado will be
on the mound for the Blue Rocks when the game picks up in the fourth inning. The
Rocks will still be the away team despite playing the game at Frawley Stadium.
LOPEZ ON A ROLL: Nicky Lopez extended both his on-base streak and hitting streak
with a hit in his first at-bat of the game on Wednesday. His on-base streak now moves to
23-games and the hitting streak inched to 13-games. The Wilmington shortstop has hit
safely in all but five games this year. The on-base streak is currently the longest active
streak in the Carolina League and second-longest of the season for the Blue Rocks.
Anderson Miller reached in 30 consecutive games from mid-April-through-mid-May.
DOZIER REHAB: The Wilmington Blue Rocks added Major League rehabber Hunter
Dozier to their roster on Tuesday. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in his
2017 debut on Tuesday. Dozier, who is a member of the Royals’ 40-man roster, was
placed on the 60-Day Disabled List in early-April with a strained oblique. Dozier spent
the first half of the 2014 season with the Blue Rocks, batting .295 with four homers, 18
doubles and 39 RBI in 66 Advanced-A games. After struggling for a season-and-a-half
in Double-A, things clicked for Dozier in 2016. He earned a promotion to Triple-A
Omaha a month into the season and hit 15 homers and 36 doubles in 103 Triple-A games,
which earned him a September call up to Kansas City. With the Royals Dozier appeared
in eight games and went 4-for-19 with a double two walks and an RBI.
AMAZING IN MONTH OF MAY: The Blue Rocks offense continues to roll
through the month of May, averaging just under five runs per game. Wilmington has
scored double-digit runs in five of their 22 games played this month. Entering May the
Rocks had gone 54 consecutive contests without plating 10 runs. Wilmington is
currently hitting .274 in the second month of the season, which is 58 points higher than
the .216 average the team posted in April. As a result, the Rocks are 15-8 in the month,
which is tied for the best record in the Carolina League.
LOVING THE LONG BALL: Over the Blue Rocks’ first 26 games of the season the
Blue Crew had hit just 11 home runs, the second-fewest in the Carolina League. But over
the last 20 games Wilmington has blasted 20 more long balls. Anderson Miller has
clubbed five of the homers over this stretch. Miller has seven on the season after hitting just
three during the entire second half with Wilmington last year. Chase Vallot is not far off of
Miller’s scorching pace, hitting four homers during Wilmington’s power surge. Cody
Jones and Nicky Lopez have also clobbered two during the stretch.
TONS OF TIGHT GAMES: The Blue Rocks have played in a Carolina League-high
20 one-run games so far in 2017. No other club in the ten-team loop has played in more
than 16 single-score affairs. Unfortunately for Wilmington, the Rocks are just 8-12 in
such contests, but have won four in a row. Wilmington has also played in six extra
innings affairs already in 2017-the second-most in the Carolina League. The Rocks are
just 2-4 in those games not completed in regulation.
THEY SAID IT, MANAGER JAMIE QUIRK: “Both sides had a lot of traffic on the base
paths. (Foster) Griffin worked out of traffic his whole five innings. He had to work hard. He
didn’t cave in and did a good job to only let up one run, but a lot of traffic. The relievers have
been doing such a fantastic job keeping the other team from adding on and this was a rare day
where they were able to add on. We had to keep playing catch up and didn’t quite get there...A
year ago right now, (Griffin) would have given up three or four runs (in a start where he was
off). He made pitches when he needed to. He got himself in low traffic, low trouble and got some
big strikeouts when he needed to. He battled. That’s a good sign when you don’t have your good
stuff. You are throwing a lot of pitches, there are tons of base runners and you are pitching out
of the stretch and he was able to get through it...“It was a big at-bat (on Nate Esposito’s RBI
single in the fifth inning). He was determined to get that run in and he got that base hit. That was
a key part in the game and Esposito has been doing that. When he gets an opportunity to play
he does a good job. He knows what he is, he wasn’t trying to be a hero and hit the all out of the
park. He was just trying to get the ball in play and he hit a nice line drive for a base hit. That’s
what we stress with the guys all the time...Oh yeah Nicky Lopez has big league potential.
Skipping Low-A, he didn’t skip a beat. He just plays baseball. You could put him at a higher
level right now and he is going to be fine, but a year ago right now he was in college. He is still
learning, but his baseball IQ is tremendous. He is always in the right spot. Defensively he is
phenomenal, offensively he is phenomenal. He is still learning his game but he is at the top of it
right now. He is just going out and playing and doing his thing. Whatever happens, happens. He
will get there. Time will tell when and there is no rush. He is still young, but he is playing great.”
Tonight’s Starters
POT: RHP Joan Baez (1-5, 5.50 ERA)
vs.
WIL: RHP Scott Blewett (2-4, 4.41 ERA)
Scott Blewett will get the start in the seven-inning contest later tonight.
He was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Kansas
City Royals, which was noteworthy because the tall right-hander became the first New York high school pitcher drafted in the first two
rounds since the turn of the century (it last happened in 1999). The sixfoot-six 210-pounder is the sixth-ranked prospect in the Kansas City
Royals system according to Baseball America. Scouts love his fastball,
which consistently sits in the mid-90s. His curveball has improved dramatically since joining the Royals system, while scouts have noticed
consistent progress with his changeup as well. Blewett spent the last
two seasons in Low-A Lexington, shaving almost a full run off his
ERA in 2016 (from 5.20 to 4.31). He also missed a lot of bats last
season, fanning 121 in 129 innings pitched. Growing up just outside of
Syracuse, Blewett committed to play college ball at St. John’s, before
the Royals doled out a reported $1.8 million signing bonus ($800,000
above slot). Blewett has lasted at least six innings and allowed one run
or less in four of his last six starts. He struggled last time out, however,
allowing eight runs on 10 hits in just four frames of a loss to Frederick.
Joan Baez will start in the second game against the Blue Rocks, making it his fourth start against the Blue Crew. The hard-throwing righty
is 1-2 with a 4.40 ERA in his prior three starts against Wilmington, allowing seven earned runs in 14.1 innings of work and also has walked
15 batters in that span. On the season, Baez is 1-5 with a 5.50 ERA
in eight starts. Walks have been an issue for the 22-year-old as he
has averaged a walk per inning. His last outing came on May 20 at
Lynchburg where he lasted just two innings, allowed two runs on two
hits and needed 54 pitches to complete his shortest outing of the season. The Dominican Republic product is rated the 29th-best prospect
in the Washington Nationals system. He has a fastball which has been
clocked at 100 mph on occasion but primarily sits in the upper 90s. He
as an above-average curveball and is developing a changeup.

The Potomac Picture
Delaware native Tripp Keister returns to Potomac for his fourth season
at the helm of the Nationals. He led the P-Nats to a Mills Cup
Championship in his first season with the organization in 2014. He
brought them back to the postseason last year after a hiatus in 2015. Last
season, Potomac clinched a playoff berth with a second half, second
place finish in the North Division as Lynchburg swept both halves of the
season. The P-Nats finished with a 73-65 overall record and was ousted
by the Hillcats in the North Division semifinals 2-1. Keister started his
managerial career in 2012 with the GCL Nationals. He led the
Hagerstown Sun of the South Atlantic League to 80 wins in 2013 and
finished the regular season in 2014 with a 78-58 record on the way to
winning the Mills Cup.
The Nationals’ top-prospect and now named the 9th best prospect in all
of baseball in Baseball America’s latest ranking, Victor Robles returns
to Potomac after playing in 41 games last season. He hit .262 three
home runs and drove in 11 RBI. Entering 2017, the 19-year old outfielder has been named the best hitter for average, best athlete, best
defensive outfielder ad best outfield arm in Washington’s farm system
per Baseball America.
Joining Robles is third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez (#16 prospect in
system). Last year he had pit stops in Short-Season Auburn and Low-A
Hagerstown. He hit .301 in 105 games prior to his promotion to
Potomac. In a small sample size of ten games, he hit .237 with a pair of
extra-base hits. Other position players that rank in the Top 30 Prospects
in the Nats’ system are shortstop Edwin Lora (#23) and outfielder
Telmito Agustin (#28).
On the mound, the P-Nats have six new hurlers in their pitching staff.
RHP Joan Baez (#29) is the only pitcher on the 2017 squad in the Top30 prospects according to Baseball America. The hard-throwing righty
has been clocked at triple digits, reaching 100 m.p.h. on the radar gun.
He spent all of last year with Low-A Hagerstown and posted a 9-7
record with a 3.94 ERA.
The P-Nats pitching staff also consists of Mariano Rivera III, the son
of former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera. Rivera III was
originally drafted by the Yankees in 2014 but didn’t sign. The Nationals
selected him in the fourth round of the 2015 draft out of Iona (NY). The
younger Rivera has collected 13 saves in 19 opportunities through his
first two seasons in professional baseball.
There is a lot of international talent on the P-Nats roster. There are ten
Dominican-born players on the roster, including all five starting pitchers
for the P-Nats. In addition, the highly touted prospects all hail from the
Dominican Republic.
So far in the 2017 head-to-head series, the Blue Rocks lead 8-6 through
the first 14 games played. Of those contests, eight have been decided by
two runs or less. The Rocks have taken seven of the last ten against
Potomac.
TONIGHT’S BLUE ROCKS STARTING PITCHER
#45 RHP
Scott Blewett
Acquired: Drafted in 2nd round in MLB Draft in 2014 out of Baker H.S. (Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
Born: Syracuse, N.Y. Age: 21 (April 10, 1996)
Resides: Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Ht: 6’6 Wt: 210
College: N/ABats/Throws: R/R
Pitch Repertoire: Fastball, Changeup, Curveball
SCOTT BLEWETT: Scott Blewett was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Kansas City Royals, which
was noteworthy because the tall right-hander became the first New York high school pitcher drafted in the first two rounds
since the turn of the century (it last happened in 1999). The six-foot-six 210-pounder is the sixth-ranked prospect in the
Kansas City Royals system according to Baseball America. Scouts love his fastball, which consistently sits in the mid-90s.
His curveball has improved dramatically since joining the Royals system, while scouts have noticed consistent progress with
his changeup as well. Blewett spent the last two seasons in Low-A Lexington, shaving almost a full run off his ERA in 2016
(from 5.20 to 4.31). He also missed a lot of bats last season, fanning 121 in 129 innings pitched. Growing up just outside of
Syracuse, Blewett committed to play college ball at St. John’s, before the Royals doled out a reported $1.8 million signing
bonus ($800,000 above slot). Blewett has lasted at least six innings and allowed one run or less in four of his last six starts. He
is making his fifth start against Potomac of the season.
JACK OF ALL TRADES: Growing up in northern New York the conditions were not exactly ideal for a young,
budding baseball star, but Blewett refused to let that get in his way. When it was too cold to play baseball as a kid, the
Syracuse native embraced other sports to sharpen his competitive spirit. In an age of hyper-specialization in youth sports,
Blewett now sees the positives from diversification. “A big thing a lot of people said is I would be fresh once I get to pro
ball because I won’t have nearly as many innings under my belt” Blewett says. “I was a three-sport athlete and I got a
chance to get different perspectives from different games. I was able to compete in other atmospheres. I know a lot of
guys in California and the south where it’s baseball all year round. I ran cross country and ran 5K’s. It doesn’t sound
that fun but it was exhilarating because you’re competing with that guy in front of you. When I was younger I played
hockey and then in high school (I played) basketball (because) of my height, so you had that element of competition.
Ultimately in the spring it was baseball. Once I got to my junior and senior year it was strictly baseball. But the earlier
experience gives you that competitive edge. So now for me in pro ball when I’m competing for a position or on a roster
I had the edge, because I understand how to compete.”

SCAPULA ISSUES IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR: Blewett had a health scare near the end of his high Last Win: 5/15/17 @ Potomac Nationals
school career which he says came from a lack of understanding of the importance of arm maintenance. “In Last Loss: 5/20/17 v@ Frederick Keys
high school I never did any shoulder work. When I got to pro ball that was something that was really emphasized and I found out I had made a big mistake.” But in high school Blewett was at a showcase in the south and
that mistake caught up to him. “I was down in Florida and throwing in warm weather and I think I threw the
hardest I ever threw. I had a lot of scouts watching, a lot of adrenaline, and I was overthrowing and doing a lot
of things that I probably shouldn’t be doing that was detrimental to my body and ultimately mu health. When
I went back to New York in colder weather I pitched in a game and felt some shoulder fatigue. I pulled myself
out of the game, which I’d never done before.” He went to the doctor and after lots of tests the diagnosis was-in his words-- a really week scapula. “It took me a few months to rehab to get back to maximum strength.
Once we got to that point I knew I had to change some things both approach wise and work wise. From high
school to now I’ve worked on maintaining the strength in my scapula.”
SCOTT’S CHOICE: A lot of guys forego college to play pro baseball, but not everyone has the kind of perspective as a
teenager that Blewett brought to the decision. “As a young kid I always said I wanted to play professional baseball and that
was my dream. I jumped into it and chased it hard. I’ve always been someone that can’t go into one thing and concentrate
on another thing. With school, education was always focused on when I was in high school. It was always about making sure
you get your work done then focus on baseball. It’s a lot easier to handle things in that atmosphere, but once I got to college
I knew the work was going to get much harder and the competition was going to get harder. So I said hey if I can get into
pro ball I’d have one focus. If I went to college I would have two goals, graduate and hopefully get drafted again.” So the tall
righty decided to turn all of his attention toward making a living at the sport he loves.

A LITTLE ADJUSTMENT: Sometimes the smallest of keys can help a pitcher find his rhythm. For Blewett it
was an accidental discovery in the bullpen at Potomac in his last outing that had a big impact. “I had the sun in
my eyes so I pulled my hat down,” Blewett recounted. “And wouldn’t you know even something small like that
let me keep my chin down and my head aligned. That keeps me from yanking my fastball Once I got that, and
got in my groove with my confidence it all came together.”

-Hit .249 vs RHP and .213 vs LHP
-Hit .275 on the road (208 ABs) and .207 at home (218 ABs)
-Spent the winter in the Australian Winter League with the Melbourne Aces and ranked among
league’s leaders in total bases (tied for second), batting average (third), hits (third) and runs (tied for
fourth).
2015 Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League)
-Hit .292 with four home runs and 45 RBI in 68 games.
-Ranked tied for fourth among Pioneer League batters in walks (36) during his pro debut. -Finished
third on the Chukars in hits (78), second in doubles (18) and fourth in triples (6).
-Was the second toughest batter to strike out in the league (every 9.03 at-bats).
They said it:“Working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more.
That’s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the bases. I told myself I had two
pitches and then I’m out...It took its own form (on 62-game on-base streak). I pretty much just
rolled with it. I ended the season in Idaho and pretty much knew about my streak but when I
started last season in Lexington I didn’t even think about it. (On keeping streak alive) I think
developing as a player each year and getting better each year helped.... I think defense is the
number one key to me. That helps wins games. I know hitting does too but if you have pitching
and defense, that can help make a run in the playoffs...Working with the coaches down in Spring
Training and learning the game more. That’s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc
on the base. I told myself I had two pitches and then I’m out.... I know Brandon Phillips doesn’t
really run like that but I compare myself to him. Jose Altuve as well.”
They said it: “I had a blast in Australia. We ended up having a really good team and really
good group of guys down in Melbourne, Australia. I had a really good time and got a lot
better and made improvements ... Living there was actually not as different as I thought it
would be. There’s a lot of US pop culture there so that wasn’t much different. As far as
baseball, there was actually a big difference. There’s a lot of Japanese guys there so the
style of play, especially the pitching is a lot different. There’s a lot more splitters than
change ups and I also saw a lot more soft throwing lefties which helped me out a lot... I
played football growing up and I actually almost ended up playing football in college
instead of baseball. I had a few more opportunities in football than baseball but baseball
has always been my passion and it ended up working out... Definitely the fans. We have
a good group of fans here and they like to come out and watch. I like it here.”

They said it: (On what led to great success in Lexington to start the season)“Honestly, my
teammates. My first couple of games weren’t very good and my teammates knew I could do
it, they had my back and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and the great coaching staff we have down there...Just trying to be as consistent as possible (On what he worked

actually know probably more guys here (in Wilmington) than I did at the beginning of the
Lexington season so I’m super excited. It’s a great group of guys here...I loved that school
(the University of New Mexico). Great school, great place to hit. Coach (Ray) Birmingham
is a great head coach and knows what he is talking about with hitting. His support staff as
well with Buddy Goldsmith, Ken (Jacome), the pitching coach, and Tony Cappuccilli were
all great coaches and had great team environment there...(on moving from California to New
Mexico) It is definitely different. It was the best place for me to go play baseball. My best
friend from high school, Jared Holly, went to New Mexico first. He was a sophomore there
my freshman year and he helped me in a lot of ways to make the transition easier...(On
transition from catcher to first base.)...I absolutely love it. Catching is rough, I respect those
guys for being back there. Those guys grind and put their bodies on the line. Being at first is
definitely a lot easier on the body...(On being in the cleanup spot in his first Class A Advanced
start) I’m sure there will be some pregame jitters obviously. First game, new stadium, new
guys on the team but it’s just baseball. Hopefully we get a win and keep the good vibes
going.”

They said it: “I would say definitely attitude was huge for me. Learning how to take each
at-bat at a time and move forward from the negative things and take the positives of each
at-bat and that’s helped me relax at the plate... No. Absolutely not. I never had seven RBIs
before. It was really cool. I guess the coolest thing about it was that I had no idea how many
RBIs I had until the game was over and my teammates were telling me. I think that’s the
only reason why it happened. If I went in to each at-bat saying I already have four, let me
get another one RBI, it wouldn’t have happened for me and messed with my attitude. I don’t
think it would’ve been as successful as a game... I think that’s the reason why I’m here. I
really pride myself on defense. I try to come out every day to run a pitching staff, keep the
ball in front of me and not let runners advance. I think that’s what I pride myself on the
most... I don’t have a specific catcher. I can give you one guy. I was a big Jorge Posada fan
of the New York Yankees. Just the way he was so agile behind the plate and lanky. He wasn’t
a big stocky dude because I’m not like that either, but I liked the way he moved behind the
plate for sure... Definitely an energizer bunny for these guys, I think I provide a lot of energy
on the field, in the bullpen or the clubhouse. Someone that can provide energy day in and

They Said It: “I’m excited to play here.... Once I get on base I want to get in scoring position
because I know the guys behind me can swing the bat and drive me in. I need to be on base
and score runs and help the team any way I can... I’m looking forward to playing every day,
that’s the goal and that’s why I’m here. I love playing baseball and I’m looking to that more
than anything else and doing what I can to help the club win...I was lucky enough to go to
Australia and play in the Australian Baseball League. I kind of got my lower half going, but
I’m still honing it and trying to get more up the middle. It has allowed me to have a little more
power than in the past...(On living in Australia) It was awesome. We got to play with big leaguers and that’s special just in itself. We got to see how they conduct themselves. Living in a new
country was a lifetime experience...(Cultural shocks in Australia) They drive on the wrong side
of the road and that took a little while to get used to. Navigating and little things here and there,
like stores closing earlier was a little different, but I loved it...Last year really helped (on being
in WIL for second season and being comfortable in CF at Frawley Stadium). I feel like I have
a good feel and know how to read the fly balls. I feel really comfortable here (in Wilmington).”
They said it: On his success last season: I had a little more freedom. The stuff I learned in college ball
really helped me mature as a player and really help me deal with adversity. Kind of preserve through the
slumps you go through and know how to handle those and I think that was the biggest thing. When things
weren’t or were going right, just know how to act.”... “I think it’s great. In baseball you have to play defense
and offense, especially at the shortstop position. You need to be a good defender, get on base, anyway to
help the team win. That’s what I try to do day in and day out try to get on base and let the people behind me
score me and pick up the ball and help my pitchers out. Anyway to help the team succeed.”... “Creighton
helped me. Freshman year I had the strikeouts, it comes. As I matured my sophomore and junior year I got
better a pitch recognition and worked the counts. I got comfortable battling with two strikes and don’t be
afraid that there are two strikes on you and get nervous. I think that’s the biggest thing. Not being afraid with
two strikes, work the count as the leadoff hitter and the walks will come.”...On being rated #13 prospect “No
I don’t think it adds any pressure. I don’t try to really read into that stuff. I kind of just play the game and try
to help the team win and stay inside the locker room. I don’t look too much into that and try to compete and
help the team.” ...“I was a big Derek Jeter fan. I used to watch the Yankees a lot and Derek Jeter play. Right
now I like Brandon Crawford. I really like how he plays. He’s a grinder and would do anything to help the
team. It always looks like he has a dirty uniform so I kind of try to emulate that and play the game hard.”
...“I’ve never been this far east. It’s a new part of America I haven’t seen. I’ve been and played to the west
coast, been to the south but I haven’t been this far east so I’m just looking forward to meeting the people up
here and what they have to offer.”

was much less, the bus rides weren’t nearly as long and we didn’t play nearly as many games.
I feel like that was a huge aspect on top of the better talent that you faced day in and day out...
Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that’s all I
knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy yes... Like everyone
says growing up, it kind of clicks. Not saying I’m a power hitter now but it was different to add
that aspect to my game. Like I said, I’m not going to go out there and try to hit home runs they
just kind of happened last year. Hopefully it will continue this year ...On going to Univ. of
Michigan to play: Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that’s all I knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy
yes....It was unbelievable. The coaching staff there helped me a lot and I learned a lot about the
game. Constantly building knowledge and getting to know different situations to prepare me
professionally...For me it was getting healthy this offseason. I came off surgery last year so just
getting a full offseason under my belt and getting my strength back I think that had a lot to do
with the flaws I was having and let my swing take care of itself...There’s no one specific
player for me personally. I’m a fan of a lot of guys in the MLB because they’re can’t miss TV.
Watching Miguel Cabrera when I grew up as a Detroit fan and watching him on a daily basis
during his Triple Crown season was unbelievable.”

They said it: “Luckily, I came back from a labrum surgery early in my career at Western and had
some things fall my way and got lucky with that. Got a chance to play in the Cape Cod League

I think it helped me get to that position and be blessed with that opportunity...At first in 2015 I got
called up there after ten games in with Burlington and it was a little stressful. I really didn’t know
how to handle that situation. I went back last year and embraced it a lot more and had a lot more
fun and stayed loose. I had a lot of fun with it. Last year they had an Anderson Miller bobblehead
day and the first pitch of the game, I hit a home run and it was one of the top five moments of my
career. It was an amazing opportunity and I know a lot of guys don’t get to do that so I took it
all in...It goes a long way. We spend so much time together and the closer you are off the field,
the better you’re going to play together, play for each other, pick each other up and play as a unit.
There’s not separation in the locker room and from what I see we have a really close knit group
and we’ve had a lot of fun so far. Even the guys who just jumped on board we got to know a lot
in Spring Training. Like Foster (Griffin) said, a lot of us played together and we know how to get
along with each other. I’m really looking forward to it.”

They said it: “I don’t remember any of the pain (on getting hit in the face by a fastball.) I don’t
remember the initial impact or five seconds after it happened. The only thing I remember is walking down the third base line into the clubhouse and everything after that. I went to the first hospital and had to go to a second hospital because the first one didn’t have a dentist. The dentist had to
pull my teeth back into place. My teeth were bent at a 45-degree angle so she had to pop those back
in. The doctor had to stitch me up. I had 30 stitches from the top of my nose to underneath my
lip.”...(On getting back in the box): “It was a little tough because getting back in the box was a
little uncomfortable at first. Luckily, I got hit in my first at-bat in the arm and I was worried about
getting hit again but when I got hit, I said alright it’s fine.”... “Last year I had the solid blue piece
like the one Javier Baez wears. It kind of messed with my timing because I could see it every time
I’d go hit. I asked my agent if there was an alternate and he said yes there is. I said why not and
got the helmet and every day I hit with it on the machine and no problem now.”... “From when I
first played rookie ball in Burlington it’s a night and day difference to the type of player I am. I
have a better feel of how to play the game and how to treat yourself better. You have to play 140
games a year so you have to do whatever you have to do to get yourself ready.”... “I grew up a
Houston Astros fan and I really loved Brad Ausmus. Now more so Yadier Molina and Salvador
Perez. What they do is unbelievable and I’m not quite at their level yet, but I hope to be soon.”
