Unit Plan Grade Level: Unit #: Unit Name: 7th 8 Today’s World Big Idea/Theme: From the beginning of the twentieth century to present day, significant changes and advancements have occurred worldwide resulting in global interdependence. Culminating Assessment: Standard 7-7: World Today Culminating Assessment: Creating a CD Part I. Have the students design a CD cover that would represent all of the changes/challenges that occurred during the 20th century and beyond. Topics that must be included are: Fall of Soviet Union Technological Revolutions Environmental Crisis Human Rights Opportunities for Women Global Interdependence Environmental Challenges Part II. The students will then come up with or locate a song that illustrates each topic. There should be 7 songs listed on the CD. Students will also need to turn in an explanation for picking each song to represent the changes/ challenges that occurred. Next, choose two of the ten items to document information regarding the probable routes from the item’s development site(s) to the purchase site(s) and recording this data on a map and in a journal.
