Guidelines for providing Interlibrary Loan service (ILL) and International
Interlibrary Loan service (IILL) in the University library of the UMB
Annex No. 4
to the Library regulations of the UMB
1. If a user needs a document that the UL UMB has not in its collections, he/she may ask
for mediating a loan from another library in the Slovak Republic (Interlibrary Loan
Services). ILL loans are mediated by Department of lending services, ILL and IILL
Office, Tajovského Street 40.
2. Interlibrary loan service is provided both as loans from collections of the UL UMB for
users from other libraries in the Slovak Republic and as borrowing from collections of
other libraries in the Slovak Republic for users of the UL UMB.
3. If a user needs a document that is not held in collections of any library in the Slovak
Republic the UL UMB may on request mediate borrowing from abroad (International
Interlibrary Loan Service). UL UMB provides international interlibrary loans through the
Slovak National Library in Martin.
4. The UL UMB provides the Interlibrary Loan Service free of charge. In case of
International Interlibrary Loan Services the UL UMB claims refunding costs invoiced by
the supplier.

5. The UL UMB may request only documents from other libraries that the UL UMB does
not have in its collections for its users. The UL UMB may not request a document that
is owned by the library but is borrowed. A user of the UL UMB may not request through
ILL a document or photocopy of a document that is in collections of another library on
the territory of the city of Banská Bystrica.
6. Each registered user of the UL UMB who respects the Library regulations and who has
no obligations towards the UL UMB (blocked loans, unpaid fees etc.) may request a loan
through ILL.
7. The UL UMB lends through ILL only documents intended for out-of-house loans.
Documents intended for study in reading rooms, periodicals, thesis and other final
qualifying works are not lent out. Documents from partial libraries intended for needs
of departmental staff are lent out only exceptionally.
8. While the UL UMB has sufficient number of copies for out-of-house lending it lends also
literature from the last two years, fiction and textbooks. The loan period of documents
borrowed from collections of the UL UMB through ILL is 5 weeks, the fifth week serves
for return of the document and communication between the libraries.
9. An ILL loan can be prolonged only if there is enough free copies for lending or the
document is not reserved.
10. For an ILL loan from the collections of the UL UMB provisions of the Library regulations
of the UMB on lending documents apply. In case of borrowing documents from other
libraries the user has to respect conditions specified by the supplying library.
11. The UL UMB accepts a request for an ILL loan in these forms:
 electronic ILL request (located on the UL UMB website)
 internal ILL request form submitted to the responsible staff member
 ILL request sent by e-mail
12. A request for a document loan must include these data: author, title, place and year of
publishing a document (respectively ISBN), name and surname of the user (name of
the library), workplace, contact data.
13. A request for a copy of a document must include these data: author and title of the
article, title, number and year of publishing the journal, range of pages, name and
surname of the user (name of the library) workplace contact data.
14. Users of other libraries may request the UL UMB for a loan of a document only through
the library in which they are registered.
15. An ILL loan is considered either a loan of a document or providing a photocopy of an
article.
16. The UL UMB provides:
 photocopies of articles from journals sent by mail

scanned articles from journals sent by e-mail
17. The UL UMB handles ILL requests of other libraries’ users within 5 days.
