V Scenarios As war ravages the land, these ley lines have been harnessed by the armies of western Immoren or polluted by their conflicts with greater frequency than ever before. The damage done to these rivers of supernatural power should be healing . . . but in some places it is not. Rituals ital rivers of natural power known as ley lines flow beneath the face of Caen. Many of western Immoren’s warring factions—from the ancient and enigmatic Circle Orboros to the cold and calculating Convergence of Cyriss— draw upon the energy of the ley lines to strengthen their armies. The recent rise in draconic activity has resulted in new outbreaks of blight across western Immoren. For reasons known only to them, the dragons have begun to leave lasting scars across the face of Caen, obliterating anything that stands in their way. You have reached the final area to be devastated by the dragons’ malevolence. Already a naturally hostile environment, this dense swamp has been turned utterly toxic by the foul touch of Blighterghast. Gather your troops and march into battle, befriending those who share your ideals and defeating any who would oppose you. Will you be an altruistic Purist, seeking to restore balance and harmony to this land, or will you be a selfish Opportunist, seeking only to secure your own profits at the expense of others? The choice is yours. Players can randomly select a scenario before each game by rolling 2d6 and using the table in the “Scenarios” section of the Scars of Caen core rules. Alternatively, players can simply agree on a scenario to play. Note that the Ley Chart sometimes dictates which scenario to use for a specific region. Rituals are unique challenges that players can complete for additional league points. A player can earn bonus points from a Ritual only once per season and can complete Rituals only for their current global team. See the “Rituals” section in the Scars of Caen core rules for more details. The Rituals for this season are described below. Purist Ritual 1: Neutralizer •Win two games against the same opponent, one by assassination victory and one by scenario victory. Bonus: 3 league points Ritual 2: Breathing Room •Win a game with a friendly model in your deployment zone and in your opponent’s deployment zone. Bonus: 3 league points Ritual 3: Immaculate Victory •Win a game in which your warcaster or warlock never suffers damage, is never hit by an enemy attack, and is never knocked down or made stationary. Bonus: 3 league points 1 Ritual 4: Swamp Savant •Create a piece of swamp-themed shallow water terrain and paint or convert a model to have matching camouflage. Bonus: 5 league points Ritual 5: Caustic Countermeasures Season Models The following season models are available for Scars of Caen: Blighterghast. •Cygnar – Caustic Triumph •Win a game in which no models in your army suffer damage from a continuous effect. To complete this Ritual your opponent’s army or the scenario you are playing must have the capability to cause your models to suffer damage from a continuous effect. Bonus: 3 league points •Protectorate – Caustic Blood of Martyrs Ritual 6: Cleanup Crew •Mercenaries – Caustic Ghordson Avalancher •Play a game in which at the beginning of the game you nominate one friendly Faction warrior unit to be your Cleanup Crew. Your Cleanup Crew cannot lose more than 50% of its starting unit size during the game, and melee attacks made by this unit must destroy or remove from play at least seven enemy models in a single turn. Bonus: 5 league points Opportunist Ritual 1: Toxicant •Win all your games in the first week of the season by assassination victory. You cannot complete this Ritual if you win a game by scenario, lose a game, or do not play any games. Bonus: 3 league points Ritual 2: Spiritual Corrosion •Destroy an enemy warcaster or warlock with a magic attack. Bonus: 3 league points Ritual 3: Breakdown •Create a piece of terrain (forest, linear obstacle, or obstruction) that appears to have been partially dissolved by acid. Bonus: 5 league points Ritual 4: Pure Venom •Against a Purist player who was an Opportunist in a previous season, win a game with all enemy models destroyed or removed from play. Bonus: 5 league points Ritual 5: Kidney Shank •Hit an enemy warcaster or warlock with a back strike melee attack at least three times in the same game. Bonus: 3 league points Ritual 6: Way of the Reaper •Destroy or remove from play at least 100 enemy models during the season. Bonus: 5 league points •Khador – Caustic Black Ivan •Cryx – Caustic Erebus •Retribution – Caustic Hypnos •Convergence – Caustic Modulator •Trollbloods – Caustic Dire Troll Bomber •Circle – Rochlof and Waykeeper Caelyn •Skorne – Caustic Titan Cannoneer •Legion – Caustic Seraph •Minions – Caustic Road Hog and Caustic Swamp Horror Though legal for all league games throughout their season, season models are not legal models for use during the other seasons or outside the Scars of Caen league. A season model gains either the Purist ability or the Opportunist ability listed on its card depending on the player’s team allegiance, except in the case of the Circle Orboros season models. Rochlof and Waykeeper Caelyn—unique characters from the Scars of Caen storyline—can be included in an army only if the player’s team allegiance matches the model’s Paragon ability. Rochlof can only be included in an Opportunist player’s Circle army and must be represented in the game by a Circle Orboros Pureblood Warpwolf model. Waykeeper Caelyn can only be included in a Purist player’s Circle army and must be represented by a Circle Orboros Blackclad Wayfayer model. Stat cards for season models can be found online at http://privateerpress.com/organized-play/leagues/blighterghast. Awards Purist Champion Medal The Purist Champion medal goes to the Purist player with the most points on the league scoreboard at the end of the season. Opportunist Champion Medal The Opportunist Champion medal goes to the Opportunist player with the most points on the league scoreboard at the end of the season. Participation Patches All players who participate in a Scars of Caen league season receive a participation patch. 2 Map Regions The Ley Chart is the league map for Scars of Caen. Before each game, players determine which map region they are fighting over. The player with the lowest league score chooses the region. In the case of a tie, roll a d6 to determine who chooses. When games are completed, in addition to scoring league points, players should also inform the EO when they win a game and which region they were fighting over. The EO then reports this information using the online Ley Chart. Each region has a different effect on the battles that take place there. These effects are static; they do not change during the course of the league. When fighting in a region, be sure you know what additional rules are in effect for that region. Region 1: The Muck Leading into the heart of the swamp is a treacherous path through blighted quagmires and toxic bogs. The poisonous mud here is packed with not only Blighterghast’s corruption but also the many corpses of those foolish enough to traverse this death trap. All games played here must use Blighterghast Scenario 1: Choke Point. Region 2: Choking Hazard Here the blighted ground belches enormous clouds of poisonous smoke into the air. Drifting slowly through the swamp, this thick smoke never dissipates. Turmoil and battle in this region only cause these clouds to spread further. Without proper precautions, no creature can survive for long. All models lose Immunity: Corrosion . On a critical hit with a melee or ranged attack, the model directly hit suffers the Corrosion continuous effect . Models suffering the Corrosion continuous effect also suffer –2 STR and DEF. Games played here cannot use the Choke Point or Nightmare Scenario scenarios. Region 3: Altar of Kossk Hidden deep within the swamp is a crude stone altar dedicated to Kossk, the deity revered by the gatormen. No mere passive tribute to the god, this structure is primarily used for ritual sacrifice in his name. Now this region has become a volatile mix of Blighterghast’s corruption, dark and twisted spirits, and crazed blighted gatormen. Region 4: Blighterghast’s Scar For reasons known only to him, Blighterghast plunged deep into the soft earth of the swamp at this site like a bird of prey diving for the kill. What was once an unremarkable moor that happened to lie above a ley line nexus has been transformed into an unnatural and noxious landscape. The crater left by Blighterghast’s impact quickly filled with fetid fluids, creating a deep, dangerous lake. Soon this lake’s waters turned into a black tar, and the ground nearby began to ooze liquid poison like a bleeding sore. Every living thing within half a mile of the lake has since fallen over dead. Now both Purists and Opportunists have arrived to gather a sample of the black tar for further study. You can use the Black Tar Pool terrain feature in this region. This feature represents a small pocket of tar located a short distance from the lake. A Black Tar Pool is considered shallow water. Any model that begins or ends its activation in a Black Tar Pool suffers a POW 15 magical damage roll, gains Berserk for the remainder of the game, and cannot be healed or have damage removed from it for the remainder of the game. (When a model with Berserk destroys one or more models with a melee attack during its combat action, immediately after the attack is resolved it must make one additional melee attack against another model in its melee range.) Purist players have taken measures to ensure that the black tar does not blight the soldiers gathering it or the arcanists they return the samples to. Purist players can nominate one friendly Faction non-warcaster, non-warlock warrior model/unit to gain Pathfinder for the duration of the game. This model/ unit is immune to the effects and damage of the Black Tar Pool. Opportunist players are willing to use the black tar to their advantage, even in combat. They have prepared for battle by painting some of their more resilient soldiers with the tar. Opportunist players can nominate one friendly Faction non-warcaster, non-warlock warrior model/unit to gain Berserk (see above) and +2 STR for the duration of the game. This model/unit begins the game affected by the Corrosion continuous effect . Games played here cannot use the Choke Point or Nightmare Scenario scenarios. All games played here must use Blighterghast Scenario 2: Nightmare Scenario. 3 Region 5: The Lady’s Mystery Inexplicably, an Ordic steamboat known as The Lady’s Coin juts from the muck of the swamp like a breaching whale frozen in position. None of the local waterways could possibly have allowed the boat to reach this section of the swamp naturally. Further investigation shows that not only did this steamboat come to rest here very recently, but its cargo holds are filled with military-grade weapons and armor, some of which have spilled out into the swamp. During their activation, light and heavy warjacks and warbeasts can forfeit their action to search the swamp for goods. Whenever a model searches, roll 2d6. On a roll of 8 or greater, the model finds a useful item from the steamboat. Warjacks can spend focus and warbeasts can be forced to boost this roll. When a Purist warjack or warbeast finds an item, place a token on a warrior model within 3˝ of the warjack or warbeast. This model gains +1 DEF and ARM for one round. Multiple tokens on the same model provide a cumulative bonus. When an Opportunist warjack or warbeast finds an item, place a token on a warrior model within 3˝ of the warjack or warbeast. This model gains +1 STR and MAT for one round. Multiple tokens on the same model provide a cumulative bonus. Games played here cannot use the Choke Point, Nightmare Scenario, or Impure Evil scenarios. Region 6: The Old Ravager Not yet done with his business here, Blighterghast himself is still prowling this region of the swamp. Only death awaits those foolhardy enough to approach. All games played here must use Blighterghast Scenario 3: Impure Evil. Region 7: The Flatland Just outside the bottleneck of The Muck lies a flat, dry patch of land where the few survivors of battles in the nearby swamp can rest and mourn their dead. There is no true respite here, however, as your enemies also seek to lick their wounds in the same safe haven. There is no game effect for playing in this region. Games played here cannot use the Choke Point, Nightmare Scenario, or Impure Evil scenarios. Contents and Game Rules ©2001–2014 Privateer Press, Inc. All Rights Reserved. The zone is contested by a player if he owns at least one model within the zone that is not a warcaster or warlock, an inert warjack or wild warbeast, a fleeing model, or a model out of formation. If multiple players would score in the same turn, only the active player scores. When placing terrain, players can use only shallow water, forests, rough terrain, and linear obstacles. We recommend using at least twelve terrain features for this scenario. Both players have a deployment zone of 10˝ and an advance deployment of 16˝. Whenever a model begins its activation within 1˝ of a terrain feature, it becomes bogged down and suffers –1 SPD. Models ignore this effect while within either zone. Starting with the first player, each player can place a 12˝-diameter zone anywhere on the table that is not within either player’s deployment zone or overlapping an already placed enemy zone. The zone you place is considered the enemy zone to your opponent. Players cannot place additional terrain within 3˝ of any other terrain feature. Special Rules Starting after the second player’s second turn, at the end of each turn if a player owns a warcaster or warlock within the enemy zone and no enemy models contest it, the player scores 1 control point. Purist players have made preparations to help them cross the Choke Point quickly and safely. Models in a Purist army gain Pathfinder while within either zone. Opportunist players see the blighted bog as another tool to use to their advantage—a perfect way to cover their tracks and leave their foes forgotten in the muck. When an Opportunist model boxes an enemy model with an attack and the enemy model is not within either zone, remove the enemy model from play. Victory Conditions The first player to earn at least 4 control points and have more control points than his opponent immediately wins the game. A player wins if he has the only warcaster(s) or warlock(s) remaining in play. Contents and Game Rules ©2001–2014 Privateer Press, Inc. All Rights Reserved. What could go wrong? Place an obstruction in the center of the table. The obstruction should be no larger than 5˝ in length and width. This obstruction represents the Altar of Kossk. Hobbyists are encouraged to create their own obstruction for this scenario. When placing terrain, players can use only shallow water, forests, rough terrain, and linear obstacles. We recommend using at least five terrain features for this scenario in addition to the Altar of Kossk. The first player has a deployment zone of 7˝ and an advance deployment of 13˝. The second player has a deployment zone of 10˝ and an advance deployment of 16˝. Whenever the number of soul tokens on the Altar of Kossk reaches a total of 10, 20, or 30, consult the following table and resolve the effect immediately. 10 Souls Blight Pulse: All models within 5˝ of the Altar of Kossk immediately suffer the Corrosion continuous effect . 20 Souls Swamp Spirits: Starting with the active player, each player rolls a d6 for each unit, solo, warjack, and warbeast he controls in the order he chooses. On a roll of 1, the model/unit is immediately pushed 5˝ directly away from the Altar of Kossk. When a unit is pushed, move models farthest from the Altar first. 30 Souls Spectral Gatormen: Remove all soul tokens from the Altar of Kossk. Starting with the active player, each player rolls a d6 for each unit, solo, warjack, and warbeast he controls within 5˝ of the Altar of Kossk in the order he chooses. On a roll of 1, the model/unit suffers a boosted POW 13 damage roll. Roll damage separately for each model in a unit. Players cannot place additional terrain within 3˝ of any other terrain feature. Special Rules Starting after the second player’s second turn, at the end of each turn if a player owns a warcaster or warlock within 1˝ of the Altar of Kossk and no enemy models contest it, the player scores 1 control point. The Altar of Kossk is contested by a player if he owns at least one model within 4˝ of the Altar that is not a warcaster or warlock, an inert warjack or wild warbeast, a fleeing model, or a model out of formation. If multiple players would score in the same turn, only the active player scores. Whenever a living model is destroyed, the Altar of Kossk gains a soul token. No other models can gain soul tokens, regardless of their proximity to the model destroyed. No spell, ability, or effect can prevent the Altar from gaining souls. Your small, pathetic battles have alerted him to your presence just enough to annoy him. Run far and run fast: you cannot hope to survive this. When Blighterghast attacks, starting with the active player each player chooses a point within the zone and deviates two 5˝ AOE templates from that point. Models in one or more AOE templates suffer a boosted POW 10 blast damage roll and the Disintegration continuous effect. Place a 12˝-diameter zone in the center of the board. Both players have a deployment zone of 10˝ and an advance deployment of 16˝. Disintegration continuous effect: Blighterghast’s terrible breath causes a model to begin to disintegrate. The Disintegration continuous effect deals d6 damage points to the affected model each turn during its controller’s Maintenance Phase until it expires. When placing terrain, players can use only shallow water, forests, rough terrain, and linear obstacles. We recommend using at least six terrain features for this scenario. Players cannot place additional terrain within 3˝ of any other terrain feature. Special Rules Starting after the second player’s second turn, at the end of each turn if a player owns a warcaster or warlock within the zone and no enemy models contest it, the player scores 1 control point. The zone is contested by a player if he owns at least one model within the zone that is not a warcaster or warlock, an inert warjack or wild warbeast, a fleeing model, or a model out of formation. If multiple players would score in the same turn, only the active player scores. After resolving the AOEs, starting with the active player each player chooses a single enemy non-warcaster, non-warlock model to suffer a boosted POW 24 melee damage roll. Models disabled by this damage cannot make tough rolls and are removed from play. Victory Conditions The first player to earn at least 4 control points and have more control points than his opponent immediately wins the game. A player wins if he has the only warcaster(s) or warlock(s) remaining in play. At the beginning of each player’s turn, the player rolls a d6. If the number rolled is less than the number of turns that have passed since the last Blighterghast attack (see below), the dragon takes notice and swoops over the battlefield to attack everyone in sight. (When the game begins and on the turn immediately following an attack by the dragon, it is considered to have been 1 turn since the last Blighterghast attack.)
