Skaters to skate in one direction only. No smoking or eating on the rink. No human chains. Only skaters allowed on the ice. First aiders on duty at all times. Experienced staff to monitor and supervise customers on ice. Ice rink over crowding Crush injuries CUST YP MAJ REM LOW Limitation of numbers on the ice rink to 48 per session. Crowd control barriers to be supplied by the client to control crowding and queuing. Use of ice skates Cuts CUST YP MIN POS MED Skate blades are not kept razor sharp to minimize injuries. First aiders on duty at all times. Customers are advised to wear gloves to minimize any hand injuries and are advised not to crawl to the rink side if they fall away from the barriers. Possible broken bones CUST YP MAJ POS MED Skates must be put on correctly and must have all clips fastened correctly. Staff are aware of incorrect boot fastenings and will advise and help to fasten boots if possible. First aiders on duty at all times. Skaters are advised not to skate beyond their abilities. Barrier damage Broken or damaged barriers CUST YP MIN REM LOW Only undamaged barriers are installed and damage noted during operation of event will be rectified by competent staff members. Public areas Tripping, slips or falls CUST YP EMP MIN POS LOW All areas within our ice rink area are monitored during the operation of the event. Any trip hazards will be rectified. Power failure Lack of vision CUST YP EMP MIN REM LOW Staff will be on duty to assist customers away from the rink area should there be an interruption to the power supply. Our event manager will inform the client to rectify the problem. Young children Trips, falls on the ice, injuries, accidents YP MIN POS MED All skaters under the age of 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult, except on all school visits, which must have adequate supervision as required by the local education authority. First aider on duty at all times. Hazardous substances Glycol CUST YP EMP MIN REM LOW Only food grade glycol is used on the ice rink floor and this is diluted to 4 parts water and 1 part glycol. Please see attached COSHH sheets. Public abuse Emotional upset CUST YP MIN REM LOW The rink is operated in an outside environment and is open to the public. Our management will endeavor to curtail any public abuse and will obtain the services of the local police if necessary. Illness that may affect customer whilst skating Falling over and causing injury to self CUST YP MIN REM LOW Skaters are asked to inform staff of any illness or condition that may be affected by skating. Any skater that is skating alone can leave emergency contact details in case of an accident. Skaters collide with each other Falling over and causing injury to self CUST YP MIN POS MED Skaters will all skate in one direction. Skating across the ice or against the flow of people will not be allowed. Skaters will be limited to max number allowed and all customers will be monitored by experienced ice stewards. Skaters that are a danger to others will be removed from the ice rink. All skaters will be advised to hold on to the barriers for their own safety until used to the ice. Adequate fire extinguishers are provided. Marquees are fully fire rated for public use. Queuing Crushing, traffic accidents CUST YP EMP MIN REM LOW All customers are to queue in designated areas, keeping foot traffic away from any roads. When exiting the ice rink, barriers will be in place to direct customers away from roadsides. Supervision by rink staff and assistants will ensure whilst queuing. Outdoor lighting Electrocution CUST YP EMP MAJ REM LOW All outdoor lighting supplied by Leisure Matters will be out of public reach and will be certified by a qualified electrician. All Christmas lighting around the rink will be low voltage. Bad weather Unsafe to skate due to heavy rain, high winds, lightening etc. CUST YP EMP MIN POS LOW The rink manager will decide if the conditions allow the safe continuation of skating. If not, the session will be cancelled or suspended until the weather conditions improve.
