Serving over 600 children and teens in the Boston area, B-SAFE creates relationships that decrease violence. 60 children are in the program at St. Luke's in Chelsea; Grace Church, Everett will host during St. Luke's construction. Here's what's happening and how you can help: Monday, July 14 & Tuesday July 15: St. Paul's serves lunch and reads with the children at Grace Church. 1-2 people are needed to shop for snacks and drinks. Leaving St. Paul's at 10.30am, 6-8 people are needed to transport food to Everett, serve lunch, clean up, and read with kids. This is a great opportunity for both individuals and parents with children. Return early afternoon. Friday, July 19th: St. Paul's partners with Church of the Good Shepherd in Reading to provide a Field Trip to the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary for the B-SAFE kids. Sign up in the Big Room. Calendar Albert White Bequest Page 2 Sunday School Celebration Page 3 781-334-4594 | 781-334-8320 (for Pastoral Emergencies) | [email protected] THE JOURNEY INWARD Albert White Generous Bequest from a Native Son St. Paul's has received a bequest of $200,000 for general use, and $5000 for the use of the altar guild, from the estate of Albert White. Albert was a son of Lynnfield and St. Paul's, whose mother, Eva Drew White, helped found this parish -- she is memorialized in the alcove where the baptismal font rests. Though he moved to Brookline in the early 1960s and joined a parish there, he loved St. Paul's and remained committed to his home parish. He has family in Lynnfield and came back regularly. He called on me twice during my time here, each time to bring me items connected to St. Paul's past that he wanted here for safe keeping, and to show me pieces of the current worship space that were connected his family and the founding of the parish. Albert died last October. His funeral was held at Church of Our Saviour, Brookline, where he was a faithful member. But we buried him out of St. Paul's, and laid him to rest in Forest Hills Cemetery around the corner. He was a quiet, kind, gentle, faithful man, much loved by his family and those who knew him. But first and foremost he was a lover of Jesus--apparently he was very clear with Joel Ives, the rector of Our Saviour that he "talk about Jesus, not about me," in the homily, as they were planning his funeral during Albert's last days. Your vestry will begin prayerfully considering the best ways to be good and faithful stewards of this remarkable generosity. Congratulations to the Graduates Ral Nwangu: Finished the first half of his degree in Pharmacology at West Virginia University. He begins the doctoral portion of the program this fall. Foyer Groups This congregation is one of St. Paul’s greatest strengths. Foyer groups offer an opportunity to get to know your fellow parishioners in a more casual setting. While the foyer groups from this year wrap up their rotations this fall, we will begin to organize for next year’s groups in September. Please consider joining us! The groups this year have gone out for dinner, met for bowling and miniature golf, went to the movies, played charades, and had a karaoke night in addition to dinner in their homes. Everyone had a good time based the feedback I have received. The time line will be sign ups in September and October with groups assigned in early November. Organizing for the first gathering happens over the fall with an initial get together in early January. In the mean time, this year’s groups should be wrapping up! Please speak with Gretchen Garlow, Bev Sorrentino, Carole Mason or Gayle Richardson if you have any questions. We look forward to having everyone join us!
