with scoliosis or other spinal curvatures. Screening will be held on January 26th during
Physical Education class. Girls must wear a sports bra, camisole or bathing suit top. Bra is not

Attention 6th grade parents/Vaccines needed for 7th grade:
There are
vaccines required for your 6th grader to attend 7th grade (Tdap and Meningococcal) so if your
child sees a doctor and receives immunizations during the school year, please send a copy of
their shot record to the School Nurse. If your child is missing these vaccinations you will receive
letters and emails with each report card starting in February to remind you to turn them in. If we
do not have the updated records by the start of next school year, your child cannot start 7th
grade per Texas Law. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact the school nurse at: m
 [email protected] or call,

Makerspace Is Back!
Happy 1st Anniversary to our Makerspace! We are back with some cool new workshops to try
out. Click here to learn more and sign up for embroidery, holograms, crochet, computer
building, making dog treats, model building, cardboard prototyping, and/or bird watching. Got
questions? Check out this FAQ or email s [email protected].
What is Makerspace?
The Makers movement is all about learning to build, code, engineer, repurpose, and create in a
collaborative space. And now the movement has reached our school with the launch of our very
own Canyon Vista Makerspace.
How do I sign up for a workshop?
Go to canyonvistamakerspace.wordpress.com. Click on the “Sign Up” tab. Find your workshop
and sign up!
When and where are the workshops held?
All workshops are 3:30-4:30pm in Room 103 unless otherwise noted.
How will I know if a workshop has been cancelled?
You will receive a text message or phone call.
Do I need to know anything or bring anything?
Absolutely not! We will supply all materials and are happy to teach beginners.
Why is the workshop full?
We have limited space and can only teach small groups of kids-- that’s why we offer most
classes multiple times.
Homework Hangout replaces Friday Night Lights
Homework Hangout is on Mondays and Wednesdays after school until 5:00 pm. This is a place for students
who have fallen behind on work to get caught up. It will work very similar to the former Friday Night Lights
program. Students will be assigned by teachers or administrators to attend one of the week day sessions.
Some tutoring and mentoring will also be available. Students who are assigned to Homework Hangout are
not assigned permanently for the remainder of the year. The assignment is on an as-needed basis, and
parents will be contacted to be informed of the assignment, and ensure it works with the family’s schedule.
Students assigned to Homework Hangout will gather in the Library at 3:30 pm on their assigned day to
complete missing work. As soon as the work is complete, students are free to be picked up or walk home.
We will hold students in the Library until a parent arrives at the bus canopy or gives permission for the
student to walk home. We ask that all students be picked up by 5 pm. The phone number for Homework
Hangout is 512-464-8164. This number will also be posted on the school doors.
If you have any questions regarding Homework Hangout, or feel this program would be beneficial to your
student, please contact the grade-level counselor or your child’s teacher.
