Call for Participation
IEEE CloudCom 2013 (5th IEEE International Conference on Cloud Computing, Technology and Science)
2-5 December 2013, Bristol, UK
2013.cloudcom.org
@cloudcom2013
Sponsored and hosted by HP Labs
General Information
--------------------------IEEE CloudCom is recognized as the main regular conference worldwide on multiple dimensions of Cloud
Computing. It attracts researchers, developers, users, students and practitioners from the fields of big
data, systems architecture, services research, virtualization, security, privacy and high performance
computing, with an emphasis on how to build cloud computing platforms with real impact.
The conference provides a great opportunity to network with academics and professionals. This year the
quality of papers has been really high, with over 330 submitted papers and a full paper acceptance rate
of 17.8%.
Keynote and plenary sessions
--------------------------------------- Stephen Diamond, Chair of the IEEE Cloud Computing Initiative (Standards and Interoperability)
 Jorge Gasós, Head of Sector for Software and Services Research, Directorate-General for
Communication Networks, Content and Technology, European Commission
 Derek McAuley, Professor of Digital Economy in the School of Computer Science at the
University of Nottingham and Chief Innovation Officer, Connected Digital Economy Catapult
 Burkhard Neidecker-Lutz, Chief Development Architect and Research Fellow, SAP
 Andreas Polze, Professor, Operating Systems and Middleware Group, Hasso-Plattner-Institute
for Software Engineering, University of Potsdam
 Dr. Bhavani Thuraisingham, Louis A. Beecherl, Jr. I Distinguished Professor, Department of
Computer Science, Executive Director of the Cyber Security Research and Education Center,
Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, The University of Texas at Dallas
Topics of Interest
-----------------The “Cloud” is a natural evolution of distributed computing and of the widespread adaption of
virtualization and SOA. In Cloud Computing, IT-related capabilities and resources are provided as
services, via the Internet and on-demand, accessible without requiring detailed knowledge of the
underlying technology. The IEEE International Conference and Workshops on Cloud Computing
Technology and Science, steered by the Cloud Computing Association, aim to bring together researchers
who work on cloud computing and related technologies.
Conference themes include:
 Cloud architecture
 Big Data
 Security and Privacy in the Cloud
 Cloud services and Applications
 Virtualization
 HPC on Cloud
 IoT and Mobile on Cloud
Live demos and poster sessions will be taking place at the conference on 3 and 5 December.
There will be a PhD Consortium and eight workshops co-located with CloudCom 2013, focusing on
specific topics, as follows:








Cloud Computing for Research Collaborations (CRC)
ESC: Economics of Security in the Cloud
Requirements Engineering for Cloud Computing (RECC)
UsiNg and buIlding ClOud Testbeds (UNICO)
Cloud Technologies and Trust Domains (CTTD)
International Workshop on Cloud Computing for Bioinformatics and Its Applications (CBA)
The 3rd Network Infrastructure Services as part of Cloud Computing Workshop (NetCloud2013)
Cloud-BIM Services for the Built Environment
In addition, there will be two tutorials held as part of CloudCom 2013:


Tutorial on Hadoop
Tutorial on Stream Mining - A Big Data Perspective
Industry afternoon – from 12:30pm Thursday 5 December
This event is being sponsored by ICT Knowledge Transfer Network in partnership with the Connected
Digital Economy Catapult (CDEC) Centre. Includes keynote speeches, a poster/demo session, drinks

Social Events
------------------ Drinks reception and tours of the SS Great Britain - a museum and former passenger steamship,
previously the longest passenger ship in the world, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for
the transatlantic service between Bristol and New York. She was the first iron steamer to cross
the Atlantic in 1845, in just 14 days.
 Gala dinner at the Grand Pump Room and tour of the historic Roman town of Bath. Roman baths
were part of the day-to-day life in Ancient Rome, and this is one of the best examples of a Roman
bath complex in Europe.
 Plus the additional opportunity of a trip to the Druid monument Stonehenge. One of the most
famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is the remains of a ring of standing stones set within
earthworks, raised between 2400 and 2200 BC. It is in the middle of the most dense complex of
Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.
