From the Principal’s Desk ...
Hello and welcome to Week 7!
Last week, I attended the biannual Principal
Conference with 1238 Principals from around the
state. I have returned feeling inspired, energised
and equipped with new knowledge and
determination to make a difference. Following
are some of the conference key messages:
♦
Teaching is a team sport.
♦
A culture of trust underpins high –
performing teams.
♦
Every student deserves a great teacher—
not by chance but by design.
♦
Open the conversation with teachers,
students and parents around, “What does it
mean to be a good learner?”
♦
How can we measure the impact on students
with the mantra, one year’s schooling
equals one year’s growth?
♦
We must stay the course, support teachers to
improve the precision of their work and
enable collaboration to work.
As you can see, the focus was on teams working
collaboratively with parents and students to
support student learning. This is our moral
imperative and we will continue to stay the course
to ensure that each and every student learns
everyday.
Highlights of Week 6:
♦
Staff developing new learnings at Hearing
Impaired and Auslan Professional
Development.
♦
Student actions demonstrating the Pride
they have in their school and their
community.
♦
Prep students applying their Jolly Phonics
into their reading. Well done Preppies!
♦
♦
7/8s exploring how water connects people
and places.
Congratulations to our Prep students who
attended 100% last week—we were very
proud of them on parade this week !
PBL Focus this week: Positive Self Talk
This week we are learning to use positive self
talk to assist us in working through
challenging situations. Students have
discussed;
♦
What is positive self-talk?
♦
When would you use positive self-talk?
♦
How does positive self-talk help us to be
successful?
Students were reminded what makes them
eligible to attend the celebration activity at
the end of the term (see poster later in the
newsletter.) We hope to have as many of our
students able to attend to acknowledge them
for making positive choices.
P & C Meeting: A reminder that the P & C
Meeting will be held tomorrow at 5.30pm at
the Bowls Club.
Wandoan State School, Developing Successful
Learners!
Have a great week,
3/4s achieving excellent results in their

Year 1/2
What’s been happening in Year 1/2 so far this year? We started the term very eagerly on the first day!
We have been very busy working hard ever since! In English, we have been reading lots of books and
studying characters and everyone chose a character to do a presentation on. We are now learning to
write narratives. In Maths, we have been revising our number knowledge and counting strategies, and
are currently working on addition problems. We have been busy exploring different habitats in Science,
and the past, present and future in HASS. In Art, we have been learning all about the different elements
and so far we have created line monsters, shape robots, oil pastel shading, colour wheels and mixing
bags. After we have worked hard all week, we end the week with some “Fun Friday” afternoon
activities. A crowd favourite is the Lego
station!
Year 1/2 Technology
In addition to our visit to Mrs Baker’s
property last week our unit, “Grow, grow,
grow”, entails preparing our garden in the
Ag Plot to grow cauliflower, corn, zucchinis
and pumpkins.
