the Ringling Museum’s annual Celebrate
Circus on Jan. 21. The festivities included the Grand Opening of the Tibbals
Learning Center’s expanded interactive
galleries with Longboat Key resident and
philanthropist Howard Tibbals.
In honor of our community’s circus
heritage and the contributions of Tibbals,
the Ringling Museum held a colossal
circus celebration which included circus
starts, model builders, Windjammer musicians, clowns, and jugglers.

locally and globally, for The Howard
Brothers Circus Model, which is on display at The John and Mabel Ringling
Museum of Art. The model is housed
in the Tibbals Learning Center, which
opened in 2006 at the Museum.
The new interactive galleries are located next door to the Tibbals’ circus miniature model.
Featuring more than 11,000 square
feet of exhibition space, the new area
spotlights the art of circus performance.
Visitors can tour the acrobats and aerialists, circus clowns, daredevils and ringmaster stations and watch video footage
of their performances. Kids young and
old can squeeze into a miniature clown
car, walk the wire, and snap photos next
to a ferocious-looking faux tiger.
