Carried President’s Report As I have completed a second term as President for ASHLA, I firstly wish to thank the long standing and hard working committee that has kept this movement strong and on track;; they are and have been the heart and backbone of ASHLA for so many years and being as they aren’t dead yet! I hope will continue to push the barrow. I also wish to extend great thanks to the members that continue to present themselves show after show in an ever increasingly improving standard of both presentation and performances, there once was a tail, no longer. The innovation of our youth sectioned classes is proving to be a 2 major success, I must say that I personally hope to see more segregation between Junior and Senior in the future as they just too good. If is always with great pride that as a member and still a competitor in ASHLA events that we are becoming more respected by the Stock Horse Society and the organisers of the major shows. We are, and set the bench mark for dress and presentation standards in our show ring. The comments from Joy Poole and Beryl Gilshenan at the National Show totally embodied the values and standards ASHLA aims to aspire to;; so our mission is well being accomplished. It is however, not yet a done deal as still from time to time some of our members push the boundaries of our rules and we still need to strive for more consistency in the judging sector of our classes. Both situations are often disappointing and sometimes embarrassing especially for those of us that often have to make harsh decisions as to deal with the fallout, yet is also gives us ongoing purpose to strive, though our membership base and here at our AGM’s to urge all shows and committees to respect ASHLA’s rules and protocol. Unfortunately people will always find a loop hole, our job is to block up these holes to ensure that everyone runs under the same conditions. Lastly I’ve enjoyed my term as President of ASHLA, though I often feel inadequate being the dinosaur that I am, still reliant on Telstra and Australia Post, the world is moving too fast for my generation. So I submit my report to be accepted. Moved T Bridge, L Knight. Carried Treasurer’s Report Appendix 1, last page Moved J Allen, W Taplin. Carried Board Members Report Sally Scott has declined to renominate as our Board member representative. Sally felt that now Jane Allen was on the ASH Board, it was more appropriate for her to represent ASHLA. The meeting thanked Sally for her support. Letter to be sent to all Management Councils and ASH Journal advising of this rule. Moved K O’brien, J Young. Carried. Canberra and other Royals. Much discussion around how entries are taken for Royals ie At Canberra, ASHLA is just treated as another ridden class with horse only being entered. Letter to go all Royals (Sydney excepted) and ASH Board of Directors regarding entry forms and the need for a tick box for rider’s name and one horse, one rider rule, no substitutions allowed. Include a request for entries to be sent for currency of membership checking. Letter from Leisa Doggett – suggested a section on judging form for compulsory comments from judges as justification for score, as per dressage tests. Also request for ASHLA talk or clinic, maybe at Youth Nationals. The meeting generally agreed that though the suggestion had merit, judges do not have time to comment. Score sheets are available for viewing and ASHLA members are always willing to impart their knowledge. The new Hints for ASHLA Judges will assist judges to apply more consistency in scoring. Letter in reply to Leisa, with suggestions of which members in her area to ask for hints on equipment, presentation and workout. Flag – Melise Tuma-Webb offered to obtain quotes. Letter to go to Gloucester Branch, advising we have a design and are in the process of getting quotes. Flag must be suitable to be carried by a horse and rider and would be available for purchase by the various states. Meeting adjourned for lunch at 12.30 pm and reconvened at 1.15 pm. The meeting was then entertained by a very amusing group rendition from Victorian and SA girls. Denise Mitchell read a poem she had penned to ASHLA. 6 Steward Protocol – the presentation at the National Show was delayed due to the stewards not being aware they had to check Novice Status of every rider. Suggestion was that ASHLA have a small Green and Gold card available for National and State Royals, with Stewards duties enscribed. Secretary to organise. Letter from Gillian Green – suggested that ASHLA Seniors be able to wear riding coat, and restrict jumpers to Juniors. The meeting unanimously agreed that no changes to gear or dress be undertaken at this stage. Letter to go to Gillian thanking her and advising of this. Letter from Jackie Long – This member voiced the following concerns: a. Blue being used in ASH competition – saddlecloths and ties b. Stewards not being aware of protocol at Nationals when also competing under that judge c. Delay in ASHLA presentation at Nationals due to stewards not being sufficiently informed of their duties. a. The meeting noted that unless ASHLA addressed the ‘preferred’ wording in our rules, we were in no position to take the ASH Board to task over the introduction of blue in competition and the mandatory wearing of green and gold. b. The steward instruction is being addressed, see previous under Steward Protocol. c. Competitors are asked to submit their names for stewarding at Nationals well prior to the event – it would be on their own recognisance to excuse themselves from their duties. Some concern expressed that we could end up with no stewards. The member would be advised in writing that she should take her concerns directly to the board via her management council as points b. and c. could not be addressed through the ASHLA meeting. Raffle – service to Desert Fox donated by Joy Poole and $250 rug set donated by Stable 8. Kimberley from Stable 8 expressly wanted the rug set to be drawn at the AGM. Tick box to be added to ASHLA renewal re tickets for Desert Fox service raffle - $5.00 each. Tickets to be sold until 31/3/16 and then tick box removed from membership form. Hi Point Awards The Pointscorer suggested we use Stable 8 gift vouchers for pointscore winners, due to the issue with transporting prizes interstate – cost and weight. Moved J Heath, J Young that Stable 8 gift vouchers be used for ASHLA High Point prizes from 2015 and to stipulate the award must be embroidered with appropriate award. Business Arising NIL Correspondence As dealt with in Management Council AGM. 9 General Business The committee decided that the question re our dress code ‘preferred’ wording be sent to all members Australia wide via Survey Monkey or Aust Post. “If jumper is to be worn it must be a green and gold ASH long sleeved jumper, light coloured shirt, Green ASH tie” Felicity Green will set up Survey Monkey. Meeting closed 4 pm Further…………….. ASHLA Management Committee discussed the dress code via email during September 2015. It was decided unanimously that some questions would be put to members via the membership mailout for 2016 membership renewals, rather than Survey Monkey. This was to ensure every member received the survey: “ASHLA would like your input on the present rules regarding dress in the ASHLA class. If you are interested in having a say about the direction our dress code should or should not take, please email or post back your comments/suggestions on the following: a)Do you wish to see the word ‘preferred’ removed from Dress and Equipment. b)Do you wish to see the word ‘preferred’ removed from colours: Traditional green and gold c) Should the jumper be green only, with gold logo d) Should the tie be ASH green only e) Should the jumper be long sleeved only – no vests Please feel free to make other suggestions/recommendations on the dress code, the discussion is not limited to those five questions above. The ASHLA committee wants your input, the dress code will be on the agenda at the AGM in Darwin, and this is your chance to have your say.” 10
