GIFTEX 2016 has concluded with great success!
GIFTEX 2016 consists of 7 specialised shows for general gifts, cutting-edge design products, babies and kids
items, tableware, kitchenware, fashion accessories, and health and beauty products.
Overview
GIFTEX 2016, concurrently held with ISOT (International Stationery & Office Products Fair Tokyo) ended in
great success as a truly global trade fair. This year, 1,251 exhibitors and 56,907* buyers gathered under one roof. The
whole exhibition halls were filled with active on-site business talks and happy comments from exhibitors/visitors
were heard everywhere. (*including concurrent fairs)

Grand opening
On July 6, 2016, an opening ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the start of GIFTEX 2016. 45 of
market leaders from whole world (SEKAIDO CO., LTD., YURINDO CO., LTD., DON QUIJOTE CO., LTD., and MoMA - THE
MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, NEW YORK etc.) joined as ribbon-cutting dignitaries to express their support towards the
show and further development of the industry. Many of the dignitaries took part in the show themselves to seek the
latest and cutting-edge products and have business discussion with show participants.

11th INTERNATIONAL VARIETY-GIFT EXPO TOKYO
This year, the show resulted with a great success with lots of active business talks and exhibitors’ voices that
prove their satisfaction for the show. Of all exhibitors, over 45% companies were from abroad. The show gathered a
wide range of products including gifts, interior goods, home accessories, and decorations. In addition, special exhibit
zones were set up for interior, smartphone accessories, Wa-zakka (Japanese-style gift items) and outdoor products.
The Outdoor Products Zone was newly launched at 2016 show reflected Japanese consumer trend. Aisles were
crowded inside the show hall and lively business discussions were held among exhibitors and buyers throughout the
show period.

8th BABY & KIDS EXPO
As Japan’s largest trade show for babies and kids items, the Baby & Kids Expo, the show attracted many
buyers with not only baby & kids products but also useful items for moms. This year, the show welcomed a number
of well-known exhibitors from around the world, including ERGO BABY, HABA, aden + anais, Bebe au Lait, Cloud b,
Bruder, SASSY etc.
7th DESIGN TOKYO
Only selected exhibitors that went through a strict screening can exhibit at DESIGN TOKYO and visitors come
to the show looking for marketable designs. In response to the demand for Japan-made products, JAPAN NOW Zone
inside DESIGN TOKYO attracted visitors from all over the world. At DESIGN TOKYO PRODUCT AWARD, one grand prix
and four winners were awarded as the most “marketable” design products. The winners gained massive attention
from the industry and Japanese media, including TV shows, magazines, newspapers, and websites.

7th TABLEWARE EXPO / 5th KITCHENWARE EXPO
The TABLEWARE EXPO and KITCHENWARE EXPO expanded its scale this year, as Japan’s only trade shows
focused on tableware and kitchenware products. The two shows together expanded again by 32%, creating an ideal
platform for manufacturers and buyers from the tableware/kitchenware industries.
7th FASHION GOODS & ACCESSORIES EXPO
This year’s Fashion Goods & Accessories Expo covered a wide range of fashion-related gifts and items. 4
specialised zones (Fashion Accessories Zone, Bags & Leather Goods Zone, Gem Stones Zone and Made in Japan Zone)
were filled with lively atmosphere of lots of business talks. During the show period, over 55,000 buyers visited the
booths to source all kinds of items, including bags, jewellery, scarves, hats, and shoes.
3rd H&B EXPO -Health & Beauty Products Expo TokyoWith an expanded show space, the H&B EXPO was filled with an interactive atmosphere throughout the
show period. The show had 5 categorised zones which covered from organic cosmetics to fitness items. As Japan’s
leading trade show for health and beauty items, the H&B EXPO attracted many buyers from the beauty industry.

Exclusive Support for Overseas Exhibitors to
Penetrate into the Japanese Market
1. Special Seminar to Maximise On-site Business Results for Overseas Exhibitors
No More Cultural and Language Boundaries! Prior to the exhibition, Show Management held “Overseas
Exhibitors’ Seminar” on July 5 (Tue). Show Management gave a presentation on “Tips to Maximise Your Business
Result during the Show.” This seminar has been held to encourage overseas exhibitors to take appropriate steps for
possible difficulties they might face when entering Japanese market. By explaining “Do-s” and “Don’t-s” during
exhibition by revealing cultural differences especially in business manners, the seminar gave practical tips to
maximise business result during the show. Moreover, all procedures are focused on what they can do in the last
minute. A short example scene was also performed by Show Management which made it easier to take actions for
exhibitors. The seminar room was packed with approx. 120 enthusiastic participants and they have learned on the
following days. Many of them gave satisfactory feedbacks to Show Management that the seminar was very practical
and helpful.
2. OVERSEAS PRODUCTS SOURCING GUIDEBOOK
Show Management prepared a special guidebook which highlighted
overseas exhibitors with company information, product features/photos and
contact information. Prior to the show, the guidebook was distributed to over
10,000 major Japanese importers and buyers who were interested in sourcing
products from overseas. From seeing visitors with the guidebook seeking their
bookmarked products, the guidebook made the entire industry notice the
presence of overseas exhibitors, attracting more visitors to their booth as well as enhancing appointments with
buyers at the show. Moreover, Show Management located “International Product Information Counter” to help
visitors looking for international exhibitors’ products which resulted in a high satisfaction of international exhibitors.

3. FLOOR MAP HIGHLIGHTING OVERSEAS EXHIBITOR BOOTHS
To attract Japanese importers and distributors, the Show Management
made floor maps highlighting the booths of overseas exhibitors. The maps made
it easier for Japanese buyers to find overseas exhibitors and visit their booths.
Throughout the show period, numerous buyers were spotted with these maps,
leading to increased satisfaction of exhibitors from abroad.
4. PROMOTION OF OVERSEAS EXHIBITORS ON SHOW WEBSITE
The Show Management promoted international exhibitor products on the
show website. There were special features, such as New Arrival Brand in Japan and
unique items from around the world. As a result, Japanese buyers were able to access
product information of various exhibitors before visiting the show.

GIFTEX 2017 is held from July 5 [Wed] – 7 [Fri], 2017 at Tokyo Big Sight. Based upon the positive feedbacks
from exhibitors, 70% of the exhibit spaces for the next edition have been already booked during the 2016 show
