“THE LION KING!”
The Character Descriptions
Simba: The cub of Mufasa. Soon to be King of Pride Rock. Initially a cub, later
an adult. Brown eyes. As an adult, he's not as well-built as his father was,
presumably from growing upon a diet of insects... Friend of Pumbaa and Timon.
Nala: Friend and companion of Simba. She can pin Simba in a fight. As an adult
she and Simba fall in love, prolonging a tradition they had refused as cubs.
Scar: Younger brother of Mufasa. Uncle of Simba. Well-chiseled, bony
features. Flat black matted mane. Aspires to be King of Pride Rock by deceit,
due to his thin size and weak stature. His claws are always partly extended.
Has a vertical scar across his right eye that presumably accounts for his name.
Poombaa [Simpleton]: A well-padded warthog and friend of Timon. A little
slow, but when he catches on, it's surprising what he can do. Has a flatulence
problem.
Timon: An outcast meerkat; a friend of Pumbaa. Very self-reliant, quite a fast
talker (like a used car salesman). Stands about 6" tall.

Rafiki [Friend]: A mandrill whose role is of a mystical shaman. Outwardly he
appears to be crazy, but in reality he is very wise.
Zazu: The King's loyal servant. Very nosey and rigid. A hornbill, which is a
large-beaked bird.
Mufasa: Current King of the Pride Lands. Well-built lion. Thick mane. Brown
eyes. Biiig kitty. Father of Simba. Elder brother of Scar.
Sarabi: Mother of Simba. Wife of Mufasa. Leader of the lionesses.
Sarafina: Nala's mother. Friend of Sarabi.
The Main Hyena’s
Banzai: Most quick-tempered of the Hyenas. Best with comebacks. Offsets
Shenzi and Ed quite well.
Ed: The stupidest Hyena. Has a Bill the Cat stare. Noted by warts on the
tongue. Too stupid or slow to lie at the right time.
Shenzi: Female of the Hyena trio. Major attitude. Probably the smartest and
deals the best with Scar. Most even temper.
Bernstein The Gopher – The reporter of the community, constantly gathering
information and spreading the word throughout Pride Rock and the greater
jungle areas.
The Three Blind Mice: They are constantly in fear of being victimized by Scar
and The Hyena’s. They are being tormented throughout the whole show.
Stevie – The leader. Very fearful, but still in charge.
Helen – Second in command, and as bold as can be for a frightened
mouse.
Ray – Doesn’t want any accountability of any kind, a follower.
The Lioness’s: Sarabi & Safarina’s BFF’S, these are the queen’s of the jungle.
They are supportive, kind, and not afraid to fight if they have to.
Claudette – The captain of the Lioness’s. In charge of the other girls.
Very confident and
Corinne – Indecisive, can’t make up her mind. Very whiny.
Gemma – Always ready for a fight, very aggressive.
Carmela – The materialistic one of the group. Wears tacky jewelery.
She is also from Jersey.
Lois – Always gathering the news from the Gophers. The reporter of
the group.
Peggy – The lazy one, never wants to go anywhere. She’s always primping
and chewing gum, and doing her nails. Has Texas Big Hair!
Cloris – The oldest Lioness, a very surly, crotchety, older Lioness that

constantly is reminding the other girls of “how it was in her day”
Rhoda – The gossip, very loud and outgoing.
Adrian – The worry wart. Very nervous.
The Hyena’s
Rich – The matter of fact leader of this other Hyena Tribe. Always
tells it how it is. Loves to say “Here’s the deal” and reminds the
Hyena’s that “it’s gonna get dirty!”
Fredo – The weakest of the Hyena’s. A serious liability, could blow it
for them all at any moment. And no loyalty, definitely be turned to the
other side.
Thorndyke – Suffers from Vertigo and can’t take the heights of Pride
Rock. Has severe High Anxiety.
Cisco – The wild card, a showoff that is always talking a big game!
Brisbane – Can’t ever take anything seriously
Diesel – The muscle of the group, a very tough character.
The Monkey’s (Rafiki’s Tribe)
Rocky – Leader of the Monkey’s, biggest supporter of Rafiki.
Davey – Short temper, wants to fight the Hyena’s always!
Mickey – Older Monkey and very wise like Rafiki. But has a terrible
memory.
Benny – Youngest in the group, very wild and unpredictable.
Paulie – Takes things way too seriously and is always trying to prove
himself to Rafiki.
Donnie – The slowest one in the group. Clumsy and not very bright.

THE AUDITION LINES
Simba: {Jumps back, crying} There were wildebeasts and he tried to save me... it
was an accident, I... I didn't mean for it to happen.
Simba: No, I'm not the king. Maybe I was gonna be, but... that was a long time
ago.
Simba: {Angry} Listen, you think you can just show up and tell me how to live
my life? You don't even know what I've been through!
Nala: Wait till everybody finds out you've been here all this time! And your
mother... what will she think?
Nala: {Quietly} It's like you're back from the dead. You don't know how much
this will mean to everyone. {Pained expression} ...What it means to me.
Scar: {Looking at Zazu} Well, as far as brains go, I got the lion's share. But,
when it comes to brute strength {looking at Mufasa} ...I'm afraid I'm at the
shallow end of the gene pool.
Mufasa: A king's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the
sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king.
Sarabi: Rhoda… What were you saying about my son and his nightmares??
Sarafina: Please Rhoda, share with the pride… this theory of yours about my
Godson?
Zazu: Oh, young master, one day you will be king; then you can chase those
slobbering mangy stupid poachers from dawn until dusk.
THE MAIN HYENA’S
Shenzi: What's the hurry? We'd looove you to stick around for dinner.
Banzai: Yeaaaah! We could have whatever's... "lion" around! {Inthe background}
Get it? Lion around! {laughs}
Ed: Lion around
Pumbaa: Hey, Timon. It's just a little lion. Look at him. He's so cute, and all
alone! Can we keep him?
Timon: {Yelling into Pumbaa's ear, which creates a reverberating effect}
Pumbaa, are you nuts? We're talking about a lion. Lions eat guys like us.

Pumbaa: But he's so little.
Timon: A--huh! That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. Maybe he'll b-- ...Hey, I
got it! What if he's on our side? You know, having a lion around might not be
such a bad idea.
Rafiki: {Magically in front of Simba again} Wrong. I'm not the one who's
confused; you don't even know who you are.
Rafiki: Nope. Wrong again! Ha ha hah! He's alive! AndI'll show him to you. You
follow old Rafiki, he knows the way. Come on!
Bernstein The Gopher: My King! I bring news from the underground!
THE LIONESS’S
Corinne: I think he fractured something Claudette… Can you take a look at
this??
Gemma: If you don’t keep it down nervous Nellie I’ll fracture something for
ya! Then you’ll know for sure wont ya?!
Carmela: Take it easy Gemma! We all know Corinne has a flair for the
dramatic…
Lois: Well, this waking up at dawn thing has GOT to stop!
Peggy: Will you gals keep it down! I need my beauty sleep!
Cloris: Gemma! Respect your fellow Lioness’s! In my day we all treated each
other like the Queens of the jungle that we are!
Rhoda: Well, I heard that the reason Simba is so restless is that he has
nightmares! Can you imagine?! The future King having nightmares?!?! There
goes the jungle!
Adrian: Hey, whats wrong with that?? I have night mares??
Claudette: My apologies Sarabi, Sarafina. I’ll have a talk with Rhoda. (She
looks at Rhoda). RHODA! Time for an interrogation! My lair… immediately!
Carmela: Come on girls… if we are quiet we can hear everything! (They all sneak
off).
Sarabi: {Over Simba's endless noise of "Dad"s, sleepily}Your son... is awake...
THE HYENA’S
Rich: What’s goin on here dudes?!

Fredo: Are you sure we should be over here guys…
Thorndyke: Fredo calm down! I’m hungry…
Cisco: Let me at em!! (He rushes at Zasu).
Diesel: Wait Cisco! Cool it! Let’s just circle them and look scary!
Cisco: Sounds good! (They circle).
THE MONKEY’S
Rocky: Rafiki… did you hear Scar? He’s got a big mouth ya know??
Davey: Those stinky Hyena’s are in charge now!
Mickey: I can’t believe it! This is disgusting! Paint us something Rafiki! Show us
the future!
Benny: Well, we gotta do something! Go into the jungle… We gotta find Simba!
Paulie: Whattya think boss? What should we do??
Donnie: Can’t you see he’s upset! Give the guy a break!
