He sang to her, "You left my heart as empty as a Monday morning Church." I understand the sentiment of the song, but obviously the songwriter has never been in our Church on the Monday morning after Easter. Here's what's going on in our Church on Monday morning: • The walls still are echoing the Good News that Christ is risen. The last chord of the choir's cantata still bounces off the walls of the Sanctuary. Yesterday's packed pews still resonate with the chorus of Up From the Grave He Arose. • The Fellowship Hall still pulsates with the warmth and love of our Maundy Thursday worship experience. We served each other in succession, just as Christ and his disciples shared the Passover meal together. We imagined what it would have been like to sit at the first Lord's Table, and we became part of the continuing commemoration. We left closer to God and closer to one another. • The Church courtyard still vibrates with the sounds that thrilled our early morning encounter and celebration . As we watched the rising sun, we heard anew the words "He is not here; He is risen!" This Church is neither empty nor silent. Jesus is alive, and so is His Church! See you Sunday. What we do here matters. Upcoming Events April 30th is Undie Sunday! On April 30th we will have a special collection for the Radford Clothing bank for new, in-package underwear, an item they are often in short supply of. Our goal is for each family of the church to donate a package representing each member of their family (i.e., a family of a father, mother and 2 girls would donate an adult male package, an adult female package, and 2 girls' packages). There will be boxes around the church for the donations that day. Mission Presentation Sunday, April 30th, will be a 5th Sunday Mission event during the Sunday School hour! All adult classes (and others interested) are invited to join in a presentation by two of Central's Missionaries, Harry Howe and Mark Stransky, as they share how they minister to those in need in Southwest Virginia through the ministry of Project Crossroads and the Mel Leaman Free Clinic. Plan on joining the Mission Team for Meet and Greet and stay to learn more! Please send the following information to the church office ASAP: Name, school graduating from, future plans and picture if available. Radford/Fairlawn Daily Bread We’ve seen a lot of progress in the last few weeks - the exterior walls have been laid, and the steel frame is almost complete! The Radford Fairlawn Daily Bread serves an average of 100 meals every weekday. Volunteers help prepare and deliver 40 meals on wheels and serve an average of 60 guests in the dining room daily. Meals on wheels deliveries are split into different routes delivered by several volunteers each day. The volunteers are trained until they are comfortable delivering the meals on their route. These volunteers generally begin at 10am and are finished in an hour. Volunteers are also needed to help prepare meals, serve guests in the dining room and to clean up after all guests are served. If you have a few hours to give, RFDB can use groups or individual volunteers. If you have a truck or SUV the RFDB can also use volunteers for Walmart pick up and delivery on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 and 11:30am. These volunteers load, transport and unload donations to RFDB from Walmart. Director Donna Fern would like to thank Central for your continued support of the RFDB. Anyone with a few hours to give can contact her at 336-380-5242 or [email protected] If interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels, please contact Karen Jones at 540-641-3883or [email protected]. If interested in volunteering as a Walmart pick up/delivery driver please contact Frank Herzog at 540-250-5271.
