VMC AEQM & AEQM–R Spring Flex Seismic Isolators
VMC Series “AEQM” Spring Flex Seismic
Isolators are designed for restrained and seismic
applications through zone 4. These mountings are
capable of withstanding a minimum of 1.0 g accelerated force in all directions, and provide static
deflections up to 2 inches and loads to 2500 lbs.
When properly installed and adjusted, the AEQM
series will restrain mechanical equipment during a
seismic event. This is accomplished through their
inherent restrained design and internal upward
rebound plate which limits motion to 1/4” in all
directions. AEQM isolators are approved by the
State of California Office of State-wide Health
Planning and Development Anchorage
Pre-Approval Number R-0189.
VMC has designed two versions of the AEQM for
use in different applications. When attaching the
baseplate to structural steel, the standard version
can be utilized to obtain adequate restraint capacity. However, when attaching to concrete or when
increased strength in steel attachments are
required, the AEQM-R has been designed with a
larger baseplate to allow for proper anchor bolt
spacing. All ratings are based on destructive testing
and analyses which have been approved by
OSHPD in the State of California, and are certified
by a licensed Professional Engineer registered in
the State of California.

VMC Engineering Specification— How to specify:
Steel spring isolator incorporating elastomeric snubbing in all directions. The snubber shall be adjustable in the vertical direction and allow a maximum of 1/4 inch travel in all directions before contacting the elastomer cushion.
Spring diameters shall be no less than 0.8 times the compressed height of the spring at rated load. Springs shall also have a minimum additional
travel to solid equal to 50% of the rated deflection. Housing shall have provision to adjust the rebound plate and to inspect the spring. Housing
shall be of cast ductile iron, malleable cast iron or welded steel construction. Gray iron castings are not permitted.
Springs shall be color coded for proper identification of rated load capacity. Springs shall be coated with a polyester epoxy powder. Hardware shall
be stainless steel, or zinc plated.
Mounting shall be Series AEQM as manufactured by Vibration Mountings & Controls. Inc.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR VMC SERIES “AEQM” ISOLATORS
1. Isolators are shipped fully assembled and are to be spaced and located in accordance with installation drawings or as otherwise recommended.
Locate spring port facing outward from equipment or base so that spring is visible.
2. To facilitate installation prior to installing, VMC recommends turning the adjusting bolt so that the “Operating Clearance” is approximately 1” to
11⁄2” for 1” deflection units, 11⁄2” to 2” for 11⁄2” deflection units, and 2” to 2¹⁄₂” for 2” deflection units.

*Seismic rating is for quick reference only and is based on attachment to concrete. Use OSHPD rated curves for actual seismic rating. OSHPD Pre-Approval applies to 1" and 1¹⁄₂" deflection mountings only.
3. Locate isolators on floor or sub-base as required, insuring that the isolator centerline matches the equipment or equipment base mounting holes.
Shim and/or grout as required to level all isolator base plates. A 1⁄4" maximum difference in elevation can be tolerated.
4. Anchor all isolators to floor or sub-base as required. For installing on concrete , see “Concrete Rating Information”.
5. Remove cap screw and save. Gently place machine or machine base on top on bolt. Install cap screw but DO NOT tighten.
6. The weight of the machine will cause the spring and thus the adjustment bolt to descend.
7. Adjust all isolators by turning adjustment bolt so that the operating clearance is approximately 1⁄4". NOTE: It may be necessary to adjust rebound
plate for clearance.
8. Check equipment level and fine adjust isolators to level equipment.
9. Adjust rebound plate so that the operating clearance is no more than 1⁄4".
10. Tighten cap screw. Adjustment is complete.

AEQM OSHPD RATED LOADS
Horizontal and Vertical Ratings are approved by California
OSHPD and have OSHPD Anchorage Pre-Approval "R" Number R-0189,
and are based on properly sized bolts per ASTM A307 attached to support
structure. Testing and analyses have been performed in accordance with
OSHPD approved procedures.
To use OSHPD rated load curves:
1. Calculate vertical and horizontal load forces acting on mountings,
including translations and overturning moments.
2. The intersection of the horizontal load and vertical load
must fall within the OSHPD curve for the specified
part and method of attachment.
