12 z Thursday z April 20, 2017 Astronaut Wing Cdr Rakesh Sharma interacts with students at JKPS Kunjwani Terms 'Saare Jahan Se Achha Hindutan Hamara' best slogan Astronaut Wing Commander (retd) Rakesh Sharma being felicitated by Chairman JK Educational Society Raj Daluja, addressing students and posing for a group photograph. „ STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: It was a proud moment for the Jammu and Kashmir State as Astronaut Wing Commander (retd) Rakesh Sharma, who created history by becoming the first Indian to enter space in 1984, shared memories of his journey from student life to space during a workshopcum-motivational talk session with students from all over the J and K State at Nelsum Exquisite Millennium Hall of JK Public School, Kunjwani, here on Wednesday. In the workshop, students from 25 schools and colleges from Jammu participated. Sharing memories of his experience in space flight, Wing Cdr Rakesh Sharma termed, "Saare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara' as a best slogan. In 1984, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had enquired from him that how he was feeling in the space about his country India, he said, adding, he replied to the Late Gandhi that "Saare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara' (India is the best in the World). Besides sharing memories, Wing Cdr Sharma also advised students about the qualities required to become an astronaut, importance of focus, discipline and commitment. It was a unique opportunity for the students to meet the veteran astronaut and go through the journey of space. India's first Spaceman, Wing Cdr Sharma is a Hero of Soviet Union, adorned with Ashok Chakra. Besides eminent personalities from different walks of life, large number of students and teaching staff of the school participated. Besides Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, the event was graced by Chairman JK Educational Society Raj Daluja, Members of Management Sidharth Daluja, Gautam Daluja and Sara Daluja, Director JK Educational Society, Brig Sukhdev Singh, Principal JKPS Panjtirthi, Suman Banbah and Principal JKPS Kunjwani, S.K Singh. Earlier, the event started with traditional lighting of the lamp by Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma and other dignitaries which was followed by Ganesh Vandana. Director JK Educational Society Brig Sukhdev Singh welcomed the guest speaker and the guests. He mentioned various achievements of Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma and exhorted the students to follow his footprints and not to put a limit to anything. He also talked about his humility despite being a legend. The motivational talk of India's first spaceman with schoolchildren was a part of the many activities to be organised by JKPS Kunjwani, while celebrating 25 years in the field of education. SK Singh, Principal of the school, said the purpose of the session was to inspire, motivate and ignite young minds besides providing them a common platform to interact with the renowned cosmonaut. As a sequel to celebration, the school has been inviting various renowned personalities to develop life skill abilities and positive behaviors among the students to equip them, to meet the challenges of 21st Century. Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma was presented a memento by the Chairman JK Educational Society Raj Daluja. Vote of thanks was presented by Principal JKPS Kunjwani, S.K Singh in which he conveyed regards to Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma for giving such valuable knowledge to the young scientists in particular and society as a whole. He also thanked all the eminent guests and principals from various schools who spared their time to make the event a grand success. The programme culminated with the singing of National Anthem.
