• East side of Island Way,
north of Indiantown Road
adjacent to Jupiter
Community Park, in the
Town of Jupiter.
• The natural area is part of
NENA (Northeast
Everglades Natural Area), a
collection of 165,000 acres
of conservation lands &
activity & education centers
in Palm Beach and Martin
Counties.
Plants & Animals
• Site contains 4 native
ecosystems: mesic
flatwoods, wet flatwoods,
depression marsh, and
dome swamp.
• Plants observed: red
maple, pickerelweed, bog
button, pink sundew,
wiregrass, rabbitbells,
Catesby lily, and saw
palmetto.
• Animals observed: orchard
orbweaver, great
pondhawk, mole skink,
gopher tortoise, mottled
duck, whip-poor-will,
common yellowthroat, and
Virginia opossum.

Project Overview
• The natural area contains 160 acres of high
quality upland and wetland habitat and is part
of the watershed of the Loxahatchee River, a
federally designated Wild and Scenic River.
• The natural area adjoins a 14-acre
wildlife/greenway corridor that leads into
Jonathan Dickinson State Park by a wildlife
crossing structure installed under Island Way.
• Restoration efforts focused on removing
invasive nonnative vegetation and reintroducing prescribed fire.
• Public-use facilities include:
 Hiking trails.
 Accessible trail.
 Boardwalk.
 Educational kiosks.
 Observation platform.
 Fishing pier.
• The natural area is adjacent to Jupiter
Community Park which offers active
recreational opportunities.
• Future restoration efforts will focus on
improving hydrology by installing a seepage
barrier, water control structure, and backfilling
agricultural ditches.
• The result will be increased surface water
quality and quantity that will flow from the
natural area through “No Name Slough” and
into the Loxahatchee River.
