Official graduation date will be either January or June (end of interim session marks end of semester). After
graduation, remove Anticipated Graduation and list the month and year.
1
2
Include the grade levels you are licensed to teach as a quick reference for administrators reviewing your resume.
3
List GPAs if over 3.0. Only include one place after the decimal point.
Include your WI Licensure codes. Your license will start with IET5 which stands for Initial Educator Teacher and the
5 is for the length of the license in years. The IET5 will be followed by the 4-digit code that aligns with your degree.
For example, a student certified to teach Math will have a code of IET5-1400. A reference sheet with codes can be
found in the content section of your Student Teaching Dropbox course.
4
Skills sections are optional, but highly recommended. If you do include one, it should be a mix of technological
abilities and your experience as an educator. Tailor this section for each job application and, focus on skills detailed in
the position description.
5
If you have two 9-week placements, include the second placement with a tentative start date. Because of reverse
chronological order, it should be listed first. Once the experience begins, remove the start date and add bullets.
6
7
Start each bullet with an action verb. Use positive action verbs and do not repeat them within the same position. Use
present tense for current positions.
8
Address skills and accomplishments, not just basic teaching duties and responsibilities. Possible topics could include:
1. Experience with special needs students and individuals who are at-risk – indicate specific needs and ages
2. Parental contact
3. Classroom management examples
4. Specific examples of unique lesson plans
5. Extra-curricular activities and professional development opportunities you participated in
6. Experience within your field, including literacy, writing across the curriculum, inquiry based science,
Everyday Math, etc.
7. Evidence of your ability to analyze data through assessment
8. Implementation of PBIS, RtI, Common Core Standards, and other common Educational terms and topics
9. Proof of your ability to reflect on lessons and interactions with students in order to continuously improve
and develop
Most education résumés are two pages. If possible, try not to have the second page be less than 1/3 to 1/2 used. Include your
name and p. 2 in the upper right hand corner of the page. Always print resumes as single sided (two pages), not double-sided.
9
Many districts seek knowledge of the STEM fields and Literacy. Even if you are not specifically licensed in these
areas, differentiate your experience and demonstrate your ability to incorporate basic tenants into your teaching will
help you to stand out.
10
Tailor section headings on your resume to your experience; sections will vary based on your accomplishments.
Reference sample resumes as a starting point, and modify details to reflect your work as an educator. For example, if
you do not have direct leadership experience, do not include Leadership as a section on your resume.
11
After the position has ended, use past tense verbs to begin each. If you are still in the role, they should be in the
present tense. Do not use periods after a bullet. Each section is in reverse chronological order.
12
List seminars, conferences, and trainings attended that added educational seek evidence of value to your teaching in a
Professional Development section.
13
14
School districts seek evidence of involvement outside of teaching, and they choose candidates who are strong role
models for students and the community. Elaborate on skills and accomplishments related to teaching using bullets. A
single event volunteer experience does not necessarily need to include bullets.
Include Honor Roll and Dean’s List on your resume, if space is available; however these may be excluded due to
space constraints. Listing GPA in the Education section also communicates academic excellence.
15
When including scholarships and awards, indicate what they were given for, i.e. academics, athletics, technological
use, etc.
16
17
Include experiences outside of teaching; add bullets to highlight transferrable skills as appropriate.
