Anders Celsius is best known as inventor of the Celsius scale of
temperature measurement. He was also first one who found
out connection between the aurora borealis and changes in the
magnetic field of the Earth.

During previous century, Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit created a
temperature scale that based on lowest point of his scale on the
freezing point of water, and the highest point on the body temperature of a healthy human.
Most of Celsius’ work was in astronomy. In his study of weather
and climates, he needed an accurate temperature measure for
extended observation, and he created Celsius scale. Celsius developed the Celsius thermometer Scale. It’s a fix scale based on
the temperatures of boiling water and melting ice. He designated 0 degrees as the temperature of water at its boiling point and
100 degrees as the point at which water freezes.
To convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius, the formula [°C] = 5/9
[°F] – 32 is used. The formula to convert from Celsius back to
Fahrenheit is[°F] = 9/5 [°C] + 32. The Celsius scale is actually
larger than the Fahrenheit scale. Therefore, a change of 2 degrees Celsius is larger than a change of 2 degrees Fahrenheit.
Today, Celsius scale is used in every country except the United
States.
Aurora Borealis is a natural electrical phenomenon characterized by the appearance of streamers of reddish or greenish light
in the sky, usually near the northern or southern magnetic pole.
His one of publications was ‘Observations of the Aurora Borealis in Sweden’ in 1722. He described the effect that the northern lights had on the compass. While observing the Northern
Lights, Celsius noticed that a compass react when the lights
would fire. A compass would almost always point north, but this
was changed when the Northern Lights would occur. The needles would change their influence because of the magnetic manipulation that was occurring.
