Beginning next week—your child will bring home a book in a baggie on Monday. Keep the book until Thursday and
return along with homework. Please listen to your child read the book every night, at least once. He should be able to
read the book by himself. The following are skills we work on in class to become good readers.
 Good Readers look at the illustrations on the page. This helps us to figure out any words we do not know.
 Good Readers point to each word as we say it.
 Good readers skip the word if we do not know it and finish reading the sentence. Then we look at the
illustration on the page and look at the beginning letter of the word. If we still cannot figure it out we ask.
I hope you and your child will enjoy this time. You must return this book to get another one.
