Definition
Question A
2 marks
 Definition question.
E.g. What are natural resources?
Naturally occurring materials, such as
oil and fertile land, which can be used
by humans.
Question B
4 marks
 Opinion.
E.g. Do you think transplant surgery should be allowed? Give
TWO reasons for your point of view.
Yes I do because it cures life-threatening diseases. For
example, someone with kidney failure could be cured by
an organ transplant. It can also improve people’s lives. For
example, by giving sight to the blind.
Also, transplant surgery gives people a chance to help
others after their death, by using organs which would
otherwise be buried or burned.
Question C
(4 developed points)
 Religious Views
E.g. Choose one religion other than Christianity and explain why its
followers have a duty to look after the earth.
Muslims should look after the Earth because their responsibility to be
God’s khalifah means that Muslims should try to reduce pollution and
preserve resources.
Also, the Shari’ah and ummah tell Muslims that stewardship includes
sharing the Earth’s resources, so Muslims should work to share the
Earth’s resources more fairly and improve the standard of living in
LEDCs.
The belief that they will be judged on their behaviour as khalifahs
means Muslims have a duty to help the work of groups which try to
reduce pollution and conserve resources for example Islamic Relief.
Finally, there is a unity and balance in Allah’s creation, showing the
basic Muslim belief of tawhid. Therefore Muslims have a duty to
preserve the environment.
