any parents still think of cell phones as an enemy of
good education: high-tech toys full of games and other
distractions to steal time, decrease productivity and
drag down grade point averages. We believe it’s wise for
parents to supervise their young children’s cell phone use. But with
the rise of the small computers called “smartphones,” the big picture
has changed. A quick search of the web reveals hundreds, maybe
thousands of smartphone applications — “apps” — that can help
students organize and track homework assignments, prepare for
standardized tests and more.

Evernote
Phone Type: Android or iPhone
Description: The website for this app says,
“Capture anything. Access anywhere. Find
things fast.” Evernote enables you to take written notes in class or elsewhere, collect images
and recordings, organize it all using a notebook sorting system and share your notes with fellow students.
Teachers can use the app to store lesson plans and notes also, and parents can review their kids’ homework
by phone or computer.
