Presidents RePort
we are coming quickly to the "business end" of
the football season, with the elimination and
qualifying
finals
commencing on Sunday,
17 September 1 989.
The club is extremely proud of the achievements
to date of the three senior sides. Let us hope
that those elusive premiership flags which we
have fought so hard to get over past years, find
their resting place in the Morningside Football
CIub in 1 989.
To Rod, Marty and Paulr w€ pass on our sincere
well wishes for the coming weeks. To all the
boys we wish you an injury free and successful
final term.
Let the Red, White and Bl-ack FIag fly high in
1
989.
APPLICATION FOR TNCORPORATION
The club is currently preparing material- for
application for Incorporation of both the
Football and Social Clubs. rt is hoped at this
stage that both revised Constitutions (to meet
the reguirements of the Department of Justice)
will be available shortly for endorsement by
respective members.
The Iaw with respect to unincorporated
has developed many
associations /cIubs
uncertainties over recent years, especially in
the following situations : . The legal obligations of nominated Trustees;
. The ability of clubs to contract and hold
property;
I'
.
The liability
and
of committee members of clubs;
2
.
The rights of members of cl-ubs to maintain
Iegal actions against fellow members and/or
members of the committee.
fncorporation of both existing clubs should
remove those uncertainties.

Congratulations are in order for our players and
coaches in winning the State Championship. It
was great to see all players contributing and
whilst nerves or over anxiety might have
affected some of the players, the experience
gained wiII be invaluable during September and
October.

Match Gommittee Reporti
Noons
The senior teams have managed to successfully
negotiate a particularly trying time of the
season with 3 matches being played in 7 days on
2 occasions.
As is customary at this stage of the season we
are experiencing injury problems and we are
anxiously awaiting the results of treatment in a
number of our injured players. At this stage,
our senior training list which started at 51 has
currently been reduced to 37. Assuming all
injured players are for selection at the
beginning of the finals, our senior list will
stand at approximately 45-46.
It is pleasing to advise that 1 0 of our under
age players have played 2 or more games in the
seniors and reserves, and the Bears reserves.
They have aII performed credibly and they can
handle the higher grade which wilI help our
senior side in 1 990.
Our senior coach returns to the field after the
Windsor Zillmere game and we thank Marty King
for his top effort and totally supportive role
over the last 5 or 6 weeks
With the final stages of the season approaching
it is imperative that we all get behind our
teams and give them the total support they need
to perform to the best of their ability for the
business part of the season.

The Players Revue was a great night. There were
a few good acts. The winners were the Rochedafe
Connection with the Brady Bunch routine.
Although Shaun Valenta and Rick Chapman were
unlucky not to win with the "Grease" number
"You're the One that I Want". Rick looked that
good in a pair of Olivia Newton-John tights and
a blond wi9, I had to keep reminding myself he
was a man.
SKY CIIANNEL GETS TTTE FLTCK
Sky Channel has become the latest victim of club
cost cutting. Since installing it the coast has
skv rocketed. When the contract runs out later
in the year, it will not be continued unless it
has increased support.
LOCAL TAI,ENT FINAf,LY COMING THROUGH
rt's great to see so many young blokes coming
through to the higher grades. 9 players that
are eligible for 1 9's have played up this year

THE GAII{E PLAI{
BUS TRIP TO SOUTHPORT
Those of us who travelled on thb bus to the
Southport game had a great time. Pam made sure
we had plenty to eat and drink down and back.
The win in A & B Grades topped the day off
nicely and the club song was heard on more than
one occasion. Thanks Pam, great effort.
FOOTY JOT]RNOS HA\TE NO CHARACTER
A national football newspaper gave Paul- Fel-tham
a real hard time a few weeks ago. Strange how
they were not too interested in what Morningside
had Lo say about him. And it seems they must
not have heard about the Bears win over Hawthorn
because there wasn't much in that newspaper that
week. Funny that. If Morningside win the frag
this year, there will be a lot of big names
ducking for cover.
HOW
CAII YOU RESPECT
THEM?
People get involved in a good healthy activity
every Sunday, going to the footy, rnost of the
time with their family. trlhy should they have to
put up with being pulled up as they are driving
out the gate by a R.B.T. unit every home game.
Fair dinkum, they haunt this place that
regularly we may as well get a permanent parking
space for them outside. And they complain about
not having enough police. What a joke.
NOT THE COTJNCIL
Over the past two yearsr our players have been
trained in such a way that one phrase from the
coach can change the direction of the game.
Phrases such as "Run straight at the baII";
"Take a player off your team mates back"; "Take
the long option", "switch play"I "rncrease your
work rate"I "The game's flat", etc. are heard
often. Itrs all a part of modern coaching and
establishing a game plan. When they hear it,
they know exactly what to do.
23 VICKERY
A clever game plan from the match committee
against Kedron sill Darren Vickery kick a record
amount of goals. 23-4 with only 3 free kicks at
the end of his innings in a brilliant display.
He marked everything he could get his hands to,
was kicking goals from a mile out and had to put
up with more than one whack in the back of the
head. Full credit groes to the other 19 players
who fed him aII day in a team effort.
CRO$TLEY
SPITS THE DT'IIIIJIY
The contest between Crowley and Backa was a
beauty in the last round match against
Southport. Backa was giving him that much of a
bath, Crowley took his mouth guard out and threw
it at him i-n frustration.
TOO
SaIly-anne mustn't like Morningside either. She
wants to put a highway straight through out
club. Rockin' will have to punch the balt extra
hard to get it over four lanes of traffic.

THANKS FOR NOTHING THIEF
A couple of committee members weren't too
impressed after they worked hard to seII a
raffle at the clubhouse birthday function only
to find that some thief stole the pr.ize when
they weren't looking. I hope you choke on it
you bastard.
The boom football years where everybody gets
paid for doing something at the club are over.
Sources of income are decreasing and inflation
is increasing. If the club is to go ahead next
year, a few more people are going to have to get
in and have a go. The writing is on the wall
already our raffles budget is weII down. The
trouble is there are too many jobs and ncit
enough people to do them. The people that have
been doing these jobs for years have had enough
and who can blame them. Maybe if we had more
people to share the work load, it wouldn't be
this way.
The way the committee is set up now is
brilliant.
Now, more than ever, they are
prepared to stick together and help in the
club's operations. If you come on the committee
or just get involved, I guarantee you'I1 enjoy
yourself.
Even if you don't want the
responsibility of being on the committee, there
are plenty of things you can do to be involved.
Interchange officials;
umpire escorts; sell
raffles Friday nights, home games and functions;
do the stats water carriers etc.
There are also a number of honorary positions
within the Q.A.F.L. in which we have no
representation at aIl such as Tribunals and
different committees not to mention umpires etc.
If we're to get a fair go up there, it would
help if Morningside had some involvement with
the Q.A.F.L.
HOLIDAY FOR PAUL FELTIIATI
Paul will be glad to see the end of the footy
season. His other interest is his boat which he
hasn't been near for two months. After the last
game, I bet he'II be sailing off into the
sunset.
