Newsletter April 2014

Dear Parent/Guardian
Last Tuesday we welcomed back our 188 pupils for our final term of this session. Ten weeks of
preparation for their next Primary stage or for our P7 pupil’s preparation for High School.
We enclose a list of main dates and events with this newsletter. Fuller details will be sent home,
nearer the time, of events requiring further information. This term promises to be very busy with
good work, preparation to proceed to our next stage and lots of fun learning, while enjoying special
events.
But firstly, a look back to our Lenten Fund raising before the Easter Holidays. The five events
allowed us to raise £1920.62 in total for our chosen Charities. A wonderful total – well done to all
and thank you for all your efforts.
AIRDRIE SAVINGS BANK
Airdrie Savings Bank has advised us that they are no longer able to collect money from the Children’s
Savings Scheme from the school. They will of course, still offer accounts to school children but will
not be visiting the school to uplift money. Please contact the bank directly or the school office if you
require further information regarding this.
HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOL
Now that the summer is almost here and the weather is becoming warmer, please can we ask you to
send your child to school with a bottle of water each day. We encourage our children to drink water
throughout the day as this also helps concentration. As we are a health promoting school can I
remind you that we discourage any fizzy juice to be brought to school. Please support us in this. If
it is a particularly hot, sunny day, please can you ensure your child has some sun protection on their
skin before coming to school as well as bringing a sun-hat with them in their bags.
RAINBOW LOOM BRACELETS/ BANDS
Can I once again ask for your support in discouraging your child from wearing or bringing ‘Rainbow
loom bracelets/bands’ to school. These bands are causing disruptions to class time and disputes
during play times.

HOW GOOD IS ST BRENDAN’S PRIMARY SCHOOL AND NURSERY?
At this time of year we spend time evaluating the work we have carried out this session. Staff,
pupils and parents are asked to comment. Please take 5 minutes to share your views by completing
the attached form and sending it back to the School Office. They are important to us.
EASY FUNDRAISING
We are excited to announce that the Parent Fundraising committee will now be raising funds for the
school electronically via Easy Fundraising. Easy Fundraising is a service that allows charitable causes
to claim back funds from money spent in online retailers with no extra cost, in a similar manner to
Gift Aid. To register to be eligible for this great way of raising money for the school and for more
information, please click the Easy Fundraising link which can be found on the home page of the school
website at www.st-brendans.n-lanark.sch.uk or access our Easy Fundraising page direct at
