Project Description:
The Parliament buildings in the Berlin Spree river
curve incl. the Reichstag building covering a total
floor area of approx. 240,000 m² are equipped with
heating and cooling installations at the following
temperature levels:
Heating
110 °C/60 °C
45° C/30 °C (>60 %)
Cooling
12 °C/6 °C
16 °C/19 °C (>60 %)
Eight block-type cogeneration plants form the
center of the energy production systems. They are
consistently electricity-driven and supply primarily
the inter-connected heating systems of the four
buildings based on a centralized energy
management. Absorption machines are driven as
well. In summer, surplus heat is fed into the
aquifer heat store at a temperature of 70 °C,
recovered in winter and supplied at different
points to the low-temperature heating networks of
the integrated energy supply system.
A second aquifer which is situated at a depth of
approx. 50 m serves as a cold store. Groundwater
is stored here which has been cooled to 5 °C by
means of ambient cold or heat pumps in winter. In
summer, it serves the base-load supply of the hightemperature cooling systems in the buildings.
