Team Galaxy Weekly Update
WRMS - Week of 10/12/15
Language Arts-Miss Bowersox
Science-Mrs. Schaad
The plan for week 2 of the Global Read Aloud will be to read
chapters 9-17. We’re doing a great job staying on track. Last
Friday, each class enjoyed a Google Hangout Literacy
Discussion around the book,
Fish in a Tree
, with our new
friends in Central, New Jersey. Check out our team’s
Facebook page for pictures.
Team Galaxy scientists have been studying invasive species
such as the mongoose and the zebra mussel. They are learning
how these invasive species become overpopulated and often
cause harm to native species. They are also being introduced to
symbiotic relationships between organisms. Be sure to ask
your child about the three types of symbiotic relationships:
mutualism, parasitism, and commensalism. Students are
responsible for knowing the definition and an example of each
type of symbiosis.
This week we will blog with friends in other states using
WriteAbout.com. Again, blogs will be literature based.
The ELA Quarterly Assessment will be given on Wednesday
and Thursday. Please encourage your child to give his or her
best effort and take their time.
*
The Unit 1 Life Science Assessment will be given on Thursday
.
This is a district assessment. Students should be studying their
science notebooks at home to prepare for this important final
Life Science test.
AR goals are due on Thursday. It’s the last day of the first nine
week.s

Social Studies--Miss Hilbert
This will be our last week together! I am very sad. The goal is
for everyone to complete Lesson 9 by the end of the week.
We are finishing up the quarter by working with multi-tier
timelines this week. Next quarter is all about economics.
This week we will take the Q1 Common Assessment.
The Regional travel brochure project was due on Monday. I’m
excited to see all of the hard work the students put into their
brochures or Google Slides.
Mrs. Snyder and I will try to make this transition as smooth as
possible for everyone. I will truly miss teaching your children!
Thank you for your support!

Homework/Out of Class Work:
1 TenMarks assignment with
score of 70% or higher due Monday (just 1 this week due to the
short week!)
Students have time in Digital Extended Learning to
work on these assignments but will probably need to
work on it outside of school as well.
*Students started their quarterly assessment yesterday. A study
guide and explanation of the test went home on Friday.
Looking Ahead:
Lesson 10 is the last lesson in Unit 2. There is
a small project and a test at the end of the lesson that will need
to be completed before moving on to Unit 3: Operations with
Whole Numbers.
Quarterly Assessments are being given in class this week:
Monday & Tuesday--Social Studies & Math
Wednesday & Thursday--ELA & Science

Students should have
working
earbuds/headphones with them
daily at school! Failure to bring them to class results in a
negative Class Dojo point.
