We NEWSLETTER 24th March 2017 A message from the Heads…! We can’t quite believe it is only two weeks to go until the end of term. Spring has definitely sprung and we are looking forward to the longer days once the clocks go forward this weekend. The children have been very busy all term and there has been a wealth of different events happening across the school. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Rhyme Rockets last week and Chameleon class were very excited to receive a letter from the Queen’s Lady in Waiting. Do have a look at our Blog for further details on these and other events that have been happening. Kerry Cunningham and Emma Lamb Reception Reception children loved having their parents come into school to help make their mad models for the Mad Modelling mornings. Thank you to all those parents who came along. There were some wonderful creations. The children attended a yoga session, which was relaxing and calming; they learnt some new postures and some fun games. Year 1 Our Year 1 children are in full swing practising “Animal Rumble Grumble”. They are busy learning lines, words and actions to songs and are enjoying developing their acting skills. They have loved the Tinga Tinga art and are beginning to use this to create scenery for their performances. Year 2 Year 2 children have enjoyed problem solving to find fractions of numbers and quantities. They have been very busy using positional and directional language to give each other instructions to move a toy around a course. Reminder - National Book Token Competition We hope the children will take part in the competition to design a National Book Token using the template provided (see letter sent out on 2nd March). Entries should be returned to school by 31st March. CBeebies Show – Rhyme and Poetry The children had a fabulous time when CBeebies came into school on Thursday, 16th March for a rhyme and poetry morning. Professor Poet and First Officer Ditty needed rhymes for their rockets and the children became their rhyming recruits and helped to make new rhymes. Professor Poet wanted a chocolate bar but found a cake instead, which ended up splattered all over his face! (As reported by Ahmed and Isabel, in Year 2). The children had fun learning about rhyming words and they loved the show. Shakespeare – Romeo and Juliet We would like to say a big “well done” to all the children who took part in the Gloucester Schools Partnership performance of Romeo and Juliet. We are very proud of their achievements. Thank you too to all the staff for their help and to the parents who provided costumes and bought tickets to go to support their children. The performance was fantastic and the children were a credit to our school. Comic Relief – Red Nose Day It has been fabulous today to be greeted by a sea of red outfits in aid of Comic Relief Red Nose Day. We have sold 400 red noses and we will let you know the total amount we have raised in the next newsletter. Thank you for your support for Comic Relief. Stomach Bugs Can we please remind you that if your child becomes ill with sickness and/or diarrhoea they must remain at home for 48 hours after the last bout of either vomiting or diarrhoea. This is to prevent the spread of this illness amongst other children in the school. Head Bumps We want to ensure that everyone in school is aware when a child has had a head bump (not minor bumps) and to raise awareness we will be using new wristbands that say “I bumped my head today”. You will also notice if your child comes home wearing a head bump band. A bump note will still be given Sainsbury’s Active Kids Sainsbury’s has launched Active Kids 2017 and you will be able to collect 1 voucher for every £5 spent in the store and 1 voucher for every £10 spent online until 2nd May 2017. We would be most grateful if you could donate these vouchers to the school and encourage family and friends to donate theirs too. We will be able to use them for cooking and sports equipment. School Closure Should the school be forced to close due to bad weather or other events, you will receive a text message. Information will also be available on our school website www.longlevensinfantschool.co.uk and www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/closedschools. BBC Radio Gloucestershire and Heart radio stations will also be informed. You will soon be receiving a sheet showing the names of your class contacts. Friends News The Friends of Longlevens Infant School are organising an Easter egg hunt over the two weeks of the Easter holiday. Nearly all of the local shops and businesses are supporting this event and it will be a fantastic activity for families over the holidays. The children will each receive an information pack in the last week of term. They can complete this at home and return it to school after the holidays with £2 attached to it. Community News There will be a Bunny Hunt around Longlevens on Sunday, 9th April in aid of Footsteps4Finlay. Maps will be issued at Holy Trinity Church Hall from 1.30-3.30pm at £5 each (includes a prize for each completed map) The walk is approximately 2 miles and takes about 2 hours; it is buggy and wheelchair friendly.
