• The first Super Bowl was played January 15, 1967. The Green Bay Packers beat
the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
• The Super Bowl is named with Roman numerals because the football season
falls in two calendar years.
• On Super Bowl Sunday, about 8 million pounds of guacamole are eaten. To go
with that guacamole, about 14,500 tons of chips are eaten.
• Of the top 10 most watched American TV broadcasts of all time, nine of them
are Super Bowls. (The one exception was the M*A*S*H finale.)
• 72 footballs are used in the Super Bowl each year.
• The Dallas Cowboys, the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers share
the record for most Super Bowl wins. Each of these teams have won the Super
Bowl five times.
• Joe Montana has won the Super Bowl MVP three times.
• The Minnesota Vikings have played in four Super Bowls, but have never led at
any point during the games.
• The name of the Super Bowl trophy is the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
• The NFL has a policy against holding Super Bowl games in stadiums that have a
climate of less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit, unless it’s an enclosed stadium.
• Today, a 30-second Super Bowl commercial costs $5 million. It cost $42,500
for the first Super Bowl in 1967.
