DearParents,
InanefforttosupportthePhysicalandHealthEducationcurriculumandfosterphysicalfitness,
Highlands will once again sponsor a kilometer club for all K-7 students. Students will run laps
around our school gravel field where one kilometer equals roughly 3 laps around the field. As
thestudentscompleteonelaptheyreceivea‘speciallymarked’popsiclestick.Whentheyhave
completed3lapstheymaytradeintheirpopsiclesticksforaKMstrip.Itistheresponsibilityof
thestudentstoholdontotheirsticksuntiltheycompletethatkilometerandtoholdontoany
KMstripsuntiltheirclassroomteacherhasrecordedthemontoaclassroomchart.Students
willberewardedwithaspecialribbonforevery25kmstheycompleteupto200kmsandonly
forkmscompletedbetweenFriday,April21andFriday,May26.
The students will be supervised by volunteer parents and staff during their running between
8:05–8:35onMondays,WednesdaysandFridaysbeginningonFriday,April21andendingon
Friday,May26.TheKilometerClubwillnotruninrainyweather.
Please note that if your child wishes to run during “off” times (ie. evenings, weekends) those
kilometres will not count towards their Kilometer Club total. However, teachers will be
incorporatingrunningactivitiesintotheirclassroomprogramsthatwillallowstudentstoaddto
theirKilometerClubtotal.
Atthistimeweareaskinganyinterestedparentstocomeforwardandbecomeinvolvedinour
KilometerClub.Weneedyoutoassistwiththesupervisionduringmorningrunningsessionsby
handing out popsicle sticks and KM strips, running with the children, or cheering them on!
