The first of the group’s three concerts will be at 8 pm on Friday, November 14, at Powell Hall. Shirley Hwang ’15, Sina McLin ’15, Austin Miller ’15, John Moley ’16, Helen Pan ’16, Tara Surresh ’16, Tiffany Yao ’15 and Andrew Denney (Fine Arts) will have work shown in the Young Artists and Their Teachers exhibit at Lindenwood’s Boyle Gallery at the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts from November 28 through December 7. All are invited to an opening reception from noon to 2 pm on Sunday, November 23. Emily Zhou ’15 was chosen to be a member of the 2014 St. Louis Metro District 8 Honor Band. Isaac Bledsoe ’19 (trumpet), Johnny Browning ’19 (baritone horn), Carly Galvin ’19 (clarinet) and Edrick Joe ’19 (tuba) for being selected to the St. Louis Metro District 8 Middle School Honor Band. Madison Ungacta ’15 is one of 50 violinists nationwide to be selected as a member of the 2014 National Association of Music Educators National Honors Orchestra. During the summer, Kate Yee ’16 was named to the 2014 Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation’s National All-Scholastic Team. At the 2014 Junior Scholastic Pistol Program National Championships, she earned third place for female shooters, and her team earned fifth place overall. Congratulations to health educator Kim Bouldin-Jones on receiving the Yellow Rose Award for her work in HIV/STD global disease prevention. In recent years, Kim has made regular visits to Africa, where she is spearheading the effort to rebuild the Hiwot Feledge Hospital in northern Ethiopia. The award was presented by Zonta Club of St. Louis. For his Eagle Scout project, Cole Gieseking ’16 organized a sports equipment drive to benefit Aim High, a four-year, tuition-free summer enrichment program for promising fifth- through eighth-graders, the majority of whom come from challenging economic and social circumstances. The drive collected more than 300 items, enough to fully stock the Aim High athletic program on both the John Burroughs and Priory campuses. As of October 14, 2014 Gabe Fleisher ’20 competed on the political trivia show “Up Against the Clock” on September 20, 2014, and was then interviewed on MSNBC. Gabe is the editor-in-chief and sole staff member of a daily e-mailed newsletter, “Wake Up to Politics.” Philip Barnes (Classics) will direct the St. Louis Chamber Chorus in a program of Latin American music at 3 pm, on Sunday, November 9, at St. Cecilia’s Church, 5414 Alaska Ave., in South St. Louis, the home parish of many in the Hispanic community. The men’s a cappella group performed at the St. Louis Cardinals’ Ballpark Village on Monday, September 1. Andy Denney (Fine Arts) is a featured artist in “Constructed Visions,” a juried exhibit of sculpture and fine crafts from artisans around the country, at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild. The opening reception is from 6:30 to 8 pm, Friday, September 12, and the show runs through October 26. Christine Marshall (History) attended the Midway Institute for Teachers on the Cold War, Korea and Vietnam from June 16 - 27 at the USS Midway Museum in San Diego. In July, she participated in the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History at New York University and the 9/11 Museum. In July, Jim Roble (Science) was part of the support team for what is believed to be the first ascent of Imogene Pass (13,144 feet) by an electric vehicle, an American-designed and -built, battery-powered Zero (brand name) motorcycle. As of August 5, 2014 Eighty two members of the Class of 2014 received AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their collegelevel achievement through AP courses and exams. The average score on all AP tests taken by the class was 4.27 (5 possible). Honors included 27 AP Scholars with Distinction (average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams), 17 AP Scholars with Honors (average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken), and 38 AP Scholars (scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams). Caroline Adams ’15 made her professional debut in a full production in the premier of the one-act play, The Thing with Feathers, at the Gaslight Theater from July 25 through August 3. The St. Louis Chamber Chorus, directed by Philip Barnes (Classics), won the critics’ choice and the readers’ selection for the Best Choir Ensemble in the annual St. Louis Post-Dispatch arts poll. Six soccer Bombers were selected to play in the Missouri Athletic Club’s 30th Annual Senior All-Star game on June 28. The six selections — Sarah Botteron ’14, Ethan Mathew ’14, Stephen McMillian ’14, Joe Renner ’14, Francisco Sanchez ’14 and Cole Warner ’14 — represented the largest group in the soccer program’s history and more than every other school. Logan Otter ’15 is the 2014 Missouri Women’s Golf Association (MWGA) Junior Champion, and Ellen Port (PE/Athletics) is the MWGA Amateur Champion (for the ninth time). Port also captured her 13th Metropolitan Women’s Amateur Championship and captained of the U.S. Curtis Cup Team, which claimed the trophy in the biennial tournament featuring teams from the U.S., Great Britain and Ireland. Senior Austin Miller’s ceramic vessel is part of the Works from the Studio Exhibition on display through August 24 at the Craft Alliance in University City. The exhibit features the best work made or inspired by a class at Craft Alliance. Hannah Rodgers ’14, who received The Best of Teen Award, also has work included in the show. Ceramacist Andrew Denney (Fine Arts) will have work included in the International Tile and a Vessel Exhibition during the Silver City Clay Festival in Silver City, New Mexico. Anne Martin’s (Fine Arts) work is included in a show entitled “Summer Cut” through August at Valley House Gallery in Dallas. The St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame has named Jim Lemen (PE/Athletics, retired) a 2014 Metro Legend.
