of the free clinic,
Health care is on everyone’s mind, perhaps now more than ever because of the
daily debate about health care reform. While opinions are strong and diverse
about the topic, one point of agreement is that we need a better system with
broader, more affordable access. And while we don’t
claim to be the answer to the problem of the uninsured in the health care debate,
we do want to be sure we are a thriving health care resource for those who need
us both today and going forward.
To that end, we took great steps this year to be sure that we are thrifty,
nimble and evolving to meet our community’s greatest needs. As you’ll
read, we’ve expanded every area of service we provide, as well as expanded the
space we carry out those services. In all of those endeavors we leveraged our
partnerships and maximized our volunteer resources to achieve our expansion
goals in the most cost-effective and efficient way.
Some of the highlights from this
fiscal year include:
1.
Planned and completed renovations to the building
we share with the Health Department increasing the
size and capacity of our pharmacy, medical suite and
administrative offices;
2. Began a full-time, daytime Dental Clinic with a paid
dentist and dental assistant;
3. Treated more medical and dental patients, filled more
prescriptions and made more referrals than any year in
the history of the CFC;
4.Did more and paid less: we reduced our
pharmacy budget by forty percent with PAPs and
RxP programs and completed the renovations at
one tenth the cost of a comparable new facility
($450,000).
These achievements, and the summary of our year included in this report, are
only possible because of the generosity of people, businesses and organizations
who donated time, expertise and funds that allowed working uninsured families in
our community to get the medical and dental care they need to stay healthy and
productive. We have simplified our annual report this year to reduce our printing and
mailing costs and we are providing
“just the facts” about all of
