The 2015 Newport
Nutcracker at Rosecliff
Ok, we confess! It was us!
We just had to find an unforgettable
way to promote IMC’s new and
very original work, Brom Bones,
choreographed by Associate Artistic
Director Spencer Hering.
Inspired by Washington Irving’s
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Brom
Bones Tale recounts the story of
Ichabod Crane (Glen Lewis), his
rival Brom Bones (John Mark Owen), and their conflict for the affection of Katrina Van Tassel (Katie
Moorhead).

For one weekend , the gardens
at Bellevue House were transformed into the town of Sleepy
Hollow. The performers mingled
with audience members as dusk fell.
The gathering began the story,
which unfolded through the mysterious gardens.
As it has with other site specific
adventures, the company drew site,
dancers, and audience into a magical
experience unique to that moment
and place. We had a blast!

ing Co’s Great Friends
Touring Project—
Richmond, VA!
On September 11, 12,
& 13, Miki, Spencer, & the
IMC company dancers
headed to The River City’s
historic Grace Street Theater at Virginia Commonwealth University to perform with Amaranth Arts.
Directed by longtime
friend and collaborator,
Scott Putman, the program, called Falling Back to
Grace, featured works by
Miki, Scott, and Spencer,
including Land of a Thousand Reflections, which Scott
choreographed for IMC’s
Opening Weekend last
March.
Along with performances by Amaranth, Island Moving Co. also presented Stephanie Martinez’s Taking Watch, which
we saw premiere this July
at the Great Friends Dance
Festival. The performances in
Richmond are part of a longtime collaboration between
IMC and Scott, which have
included the creation of three
full company works for IMC
by Scott and performances by
Amaranth Arts at the Great
Friends Dance Festival.
While in Richmond, Island Moving Co. dancers
were also very busy! Glen
taught dance at a local high
school, Spencer taught a Master Class, and Katie taught
Gyrotonics at Virginia Commonwealth University and at
Richmond Ballet.
IMC PERFORMS AT RIC
On Oct. 10, IMC took
some of the season’s favorite performances on the
road to the beautiful Sapinsley Auditorium at
Rhode Island College.
Highlights of the evening
included Miki's Continua
Metamorfosi, Spencer’s
Breathing
Space and Levitation, Andrea
Dawn Shelley's Dante's Beatrice, and Stephanie Martinez’ Taking Watch, commissioned by Monique
Burgess this summer.
After the performance,
RIC dancers took advantage
of the ’Meet & Greet’ event
where they were able to ask
questions and speak with
IMC dancers about the life of
a professional dancer.
DANCE + MATH
IMC is thrilled to accept a
$5,000 grant from the
Frances R. Dewing Foundation to create a math-based
creative movement curriculum. As a part of this project,
Miki and Christine will work
closely with educators from
all over Rhode Island to create a math-based residency
tying abstract math concepts
to music, choreography, and
the students’ own bodies.
We’re excited to see what
they come up with. Additional funding for our education
programs has also come from
the Max & Victoria Dreyfus
Foundation.
