POSCO Awards Steam Tube Dryer Contract to Tsukishima Kikai
Tsukishima Kikai Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Kazuhiko Yamada) announced today
that it has received an order for a steam tube dryer from POSCO, one of Korea’s leading
blast furnace steel manufacturers. The equipment is to be installed in the coal humidity
controlling equipment for a FINEX furnace.
Steam tube dryers constitute one of Tsukishima Kikai’s major product lines, and the
company has delivered more than 500 units to various types of customers around the
world. Tsukishima Kikai holds a large share of the global market for steam tube dryers,
which are used in the manufacture of highly purified terephthalic acid, and the
company has recently been promoting their deployment in the iron and steel industries,
and others in order to expand their scope of application.
POSCO’s FINEX is a new type of process that has achieved serious cost reductions in
comparison to conventional blast furnaces. This new process does not require a coke
oven etc., instead utilizing steam coals, which have the lowest cost among the reduction
materials utilized in the iron-manufacturing process. The implementation of our steam
tube dryer allows the moisture of the steam coals to be regulated in the pre-drying
process, thus contributing to further improvement of productivity as well as energy
savings.
Steam tube dryers for coal humidity controllers used in the manufacture of high-purity
purified terephthalic acid or in the iron and steel industries require highly efficient and
large volumetric processing capabilities, for which sophisticated engineering and
production technologies are essential. Tsukishima Kikai excels in the manufacture of
large-scale dryers, and the order we have received from POSCO is for just such a
large-scale steam tube dryer.
Tsukishima Kikai has developed a strong track-record of delivering a variety of
equipment for the iron and steel industry, such as gas holders for blast furnace gas and
basic oxygen furnace gas, blast furnace slag water granulating facilities and flue gas
desulfurization facilities, and has won praise from steel manufacturers not only in
Japan, but also overseas.
Tsukishima Kikai plans to continue its overseas sales activities in an effort to win
orders related to new plant projects and expansion projects for existing plants in the
area of iron and steel industries, where further capital investment is expected. The
company is accordingly expanding its activities to cover businesses ranging from
manufacturing to EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction).
Our aim is to provide seamless support and after-contract service. We wish to actively
and continuously look for business opportunities that will enable us to expand and
maintain a strong business relationship with our customers.
We are always ready to reply to any inquiries and provide further clarification that you
might require regarding the above.
