Thesis Access and Embargo Form
Honors Student:
Department(s)/Program(s):
This form must be signed by both the student and the student’s advisor(s) and submitted to the
Library before uploading the thesis into Bowdoin Digital Commons.
The form has three parts:
I.
Level of Access: The advisor(s) and student must discuss fair use and select the
appropriate level of access.
II.
Embargo: The advisor(s) and student must decide if a period of embargo should be
assigned to the thesis. If an embargo is needed, the advisor(s) and student designate the
period of time after which the thesis will become accessible.
III.
Affirmation: The student must affirm that the work on the Honors thesis is his or
her own.

level of access and embargoes.

Part I Level of Access
Please check the appropriate level of access:
[ ] Open Access—I (student/author) grant permission to Bowdoin College to make this thesis available to the
general public for scholarly and research use through Bowdoin Digital Commons. I have discussed fair use with
my advisor(s) and hereby verify that the final version of the thesis complies with fair use.
[ ] Temporary Restricted Access— I (student/author) grant permission to Bowdoin College to make this thesis
available to the general public for scholarly and research use through Bowdoin Digital Commons after
[ ] 1, [ ] 3, [ ] 5 years. Until this period of time has passed, access to the thesis through Bowdoin Digital Commons
is granted only to the on-campus Bowdoin community. I have discussed fair use with my advisor(s) and hereby
verify that the final version of the thesis complies with fair use.
[ ] Restricted Access—I (student/author) grant access to the thesis through Bowdoin Digital Commons only to the
on-campus Bowdoin community.
Part II Embargo
Theses under embargo will not be available to anyone until after the embargo period. The abstract
will be accessible to the public, unless otherwise specified below.

• I grant Bowdoin College the non-exclusive right to make my thesis part of Bowdoin Digital
Commons and to make it available for research and scholarly purposes.
