A Message from Our Chairman
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank all of our dedicated constituents
for their most generous support of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation in 2015. This has been
a celebratory year for the Foundation as we commemorate our 10th Anniversary; I invite
you to share in our reflection of the past ten years and to be part of our hopes for the
decade to come.
It is with your continued generosity and support that we are able to fulfill our vital mission
and provide the opportunity for Long Island families in need to choose Catholic elementary
education for their children. This year, with your help, Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation has
proudly served over 1,700 students providing $1.6m in tuition assistance and school aid.
I am happy to report that in the ten years that the Foundation has been established we
have raised nearly $20m and helped over 17,000 students. I know my late wife Peg, one
of the founding members of the Foundation, and a true believer in the merits of Catholic
elementary education, would be elated with the continued commitment of our donors to
the mission she believed in so passionately. We are truly blessed to serve the Long Island
community, and look forward to continuing our good work.
As we look toward this next decade, we hope to strengthen our endowment, develop a
stronger relationship with the corporate and foundation communities, and enhance our
public awareness, all in the hopes of nurturing “our” children with strong spiritual values
in preparation for life’s journey. After all, Today’s Children are Tomorrow’s Hope.
Lewis S. Ranieri
Chairman of the Board
Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation

History and Mission
of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation
T
he mission of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation is to ensure the excellence as well as the
continuance of Catholic elementary schools on Long Island by increasing awareness and by
providing scholarship and program funding for the needs of students and schools.
In January 2004, Bishop William F. Murphy and former Superintendent of Schools and current
Secretary of Education Sister Joanne Callahan, became increasingly concerned about the costs and
sustainability of Catholic elementary schools on Long Island. They enlisted a committee to study the
challenges facing the schools. In answering the call to action to reverse the declining numbers of
students in the Catholic elementary schools across Long Island, Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation was
established in September 2005 as a tax-exempt, non-for-profit public charity. Lewis S. Ranieri was
appointed by Bishop Murphy to chair the foundation. As chairman, Mr. Ranieri put together a prominent
board of professionals, business leaders and diocesan administration. A decade later, there are 47 thriving
elementary schools in our diocese educating more than 17,000 students. Parents seeking tuition assistance
for their children now have a place to rely on for support. Over the past ten years the Foundation has
provided close to $20 million in scholarship and school aid. On behalf of Tomorrow’s Hope, we look
forward to continuing our service in the Long Island community.

Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation:
Celebrating a
Decade of Service
to the Long Island Community
The value of learning. The learning of values.
O
ver the past ten years Tomorrow’s Hope has served the Long Island community by providing parents with the opportunity to choose the education that best fits the needs of their children, without the worry of financial constraint. With generous support from our donors, and the
dedication of the members of our Board, the Foundation has proudly served over 17,000 students who
attend our network of 47 excellent Catholic elementary schools. Each year, Tomorrow’s Hope is proud
to support families in need who make the choice to send their children to our faith-based, academically
rigorous schools—over the past ten years the Foundation has provided support for these families in
awards totaling nearly $20 million towards scholarships and school aid. We remain committed to the
conviction of our mission, that Today’s Children are Tomorrow’s Hope, and look forward to the next
decade of service.

“When we started the Foundation in
2005 it was hard to envision the impact
that it would have on the schools and
their families. As we celebrate the
10th Anniversary of Tomorrow’s Hope
Foundation, I want to thank all those
who have served. Your commitment to
Catholic education and to the parents
and students in need of tuition assistance has been an inspiration to me.
You have made a difference in lives of
over 17,000 children.”

Since becoming parents of three
children, our number one priority was
to afford them with a quality education
with a Christian foundation.
Our children have
attended St. Martin
de Porres Marianist
School for over 10
years. The drive to
provide such an
education has not
gone without struggle.
Initially we did not require
any financial assistance for their
education, but when we fell on hard
times; their attendance at St. Martin
was in jeopardy. The school Headmaster
recommended that we apply for the
Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation Scholarship, which we did. We are blessed to
say that we were awarded funding that
allowed our children to maintain their
enrollment and good grades. Through
the assistance of the Foundation, we
are proud say that our children have
received an outstanding education and
continue to grow spiritually.
Our youngest child,
Nia is scheduled
to graduate from
St. Martin de
Porres, June of
2016. We would
like to thank all
the sponsors that
continue to pay the
blessings forward.

Be a STAR to a Student, Be a Guiding Light!
The Student Tuition Assistance Relationship (STAR) Program identifies students in high need of tuition
assistance and matches them with a generous donor—a “STAR” who contributes tuition assistance of
$2,000 a year. The current average tuition for Catholic elementary school is roughly $4,500. Although
tuition varies across the Diocese, this program is intended to fund roughly half of the student’s tuition
while the parent/guardian is asked to contribute the remainder.
The donor-student relationship is a special one—it consists of correspondence facilitated by Tomorrow’s
Hope throughout the school year. This relationship is unique in that the donor can see how their generous
contribution directly aids in allowing their STAR student to thrive in Catholic elementary school.
For more information on becoming a STAR to a student, visit us at www.tomorrowshopefoundation.org
“Tomorrow’s Hope’s STAR program is a charity and donation opportunity unlike any other in my
experience. My wife Irena and I have been very proud participants in this program for the past
few years. It is extremely rewarding knowing that our donation is going DIRECTLY to a Catholic
elementary school student. When we receive Christmas cards and letters from our STAR student
telling us how active they are and how rewarding their Catholic school experience has been, I am
unable to think of a more worthy forum to provide a donation.”
—Michael McCarthy
Member of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, Board of Trustees
***
“Through our STAR program, donors are able to forge a powerful, personal relationship with
the students that they sponsor and see firsthand the value of their gift. During the course
of the school year STAR donors receive regular updates, including progress reports, letters,
drawings and holiday cards from their sponsored students. Having participated in the program
since joining the Board of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation in 2010, I have found it rewarding to
provide opportunity to the families of young students who might otherwise not be afforded
access to our excellent Catholic schools. I often remind myself of how lucky I was to have a
family that afforded me the benefit of a Catholic education; this program gives you the
opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a young person and help insure their
success in life. I wholeheartedly endorse the STAR program.”
