Pine View School-Wide Simulation
“A Renaissance Experience”
On Tuesday, April 7th, The High School History Club will be conducting a historical
simulation – “A Renaissance Experience.” All 6th grade students are invited to participate in the
simulation and enjoy the day full of exciting events such as Shakespeare’s play, visiting a
Renaissance village, and hands-on activities at the Renaissance arts and crafts stations. The
students are encouraged to wear a costume during the simulation, assuming a role of a significant
Renaissance figure.
The costume will not be graded, unless a student would like to earn an extra credit by submitting
the following report:
Extra Credit Project – “My Renaissance Character” Report
This project will count as an extra credit test grade, up to 100 points.
The rough draft is due Thursday, April 2nd.
The final project is due Tuesday, April 7th.
Option A
Choose a famous character from the European Renaissance (ca. 1300-1600 C.E.) that you wish
to portray. Your character must be an actual historical figure. Write a cohesive, approximately
500 words, narrative about your character. You must include a bibliography of sources (books,
magazines, the internet resources, etc.)
-The report should be written in the first person. In other words, tell the story as if you are the
person being portrayed. Establish and identify the life span of your character.
-Tell where your character lived and what his /her social standing was.
-Write about your character’s family life providing many details about home life.
-Describe “a typical day” in the life of your character, including vivid details.
-Your character must have participated in a real historical event. Tell about the event and the
role this individual played.
-The primary goal of the report is to present an overview of the live of the Renaissance figure
with vivid details about his or her personality, lifestyle, beliefs and values.
The costume: dress like the character you are portraying. A complete, colorful and properly
labeled diagram (or an actual photo) of your costume is to be included in your report. The
costume can be store bought or homemade. There should be no weapons.
The final product should be organized and stapled in this order:
Colorful, creative cover with the MLA headings.
Diagram (or photo) or the costume, labeled.
Narrative, approximately 500 words (follow the MLA standards)
Bibliography (use works cited page as a reference)
Option B
Build a model of one of Leonardo da Vinci’ inventions in engineering. Write a cohesive,
approximately 500 words, narrative about the life of Leonardo da Vinci as well as his
achievements and inventions. You must include a bibliography of sources (books, magazines, the
internet resources, etc.)
-Identify the life span of Leonardo da Vinci, where he lived, his family background, education
and the social standing.
-Describe Leonardo’s engineering, artistic, and scientific accomplishments.
-Since you worked on one of Leonardo’s designs, explain what it is, the purpose of this machine
or engineering device, and its practical application.
The final product should be organized and stapled in this order:
Colorful, creative cover with the MLA headings.
Diagram (or photo) or the machine/engineering device, labeled.
Narrative, approximately 500 words (follow the MLA standards)
Bibliography (use works cited page as a reference)
