The “Every Child Ready to Read” skills of talking, singing,
reading, finger plays, and writing are introduced to children and
their parents. These serve to help parents educate their children
as they increase their socialization skills through music, activities

Shia LaBeouf stars as Stanley, the hero who fulfills his ancestor’s
promise, breaking a curse to restore his family’s good fortune.

Are you a Lego Legend? If you are, or want to be, come join us for

to Shiloh, a mistreated beagle pup. This
story of right and wrong and making

us at the OCL and learn the life-saving skills of CPR. Techniques
for CPR on infants, children and adults will be taught. The
afternoon class is geared for children at least 8 years old and their
families. This program is generously donated by Pendarvis
Ambulance Service.

Lowry’s book, “The Giver.” Enjoy the story
of 18 year old Jonas who becomes a hero in
his search for the truth. You won’t want to
miss the all-star cast of Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes
and Taylor Swift. After the movie, you may be a lucky winner of
your own copy of the Newbery Prize winning book! Refreshments

How Does Your Garden Grow
In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage literacy in our community, the Orangeburg County Library and
the Clemson University Extension Service will offer gardening programs on the first Tuesday of each month. Master
Gardeners will present a program that includes presentations,
demonstrations, and a question-and-answer session. They will
also highlight a plant of the month and give away a plant prize!
Participants will receive handouts from Clemson University’s
Home and Garden Information Center as well as a month
gardening to-do list.

partnership with Well Care of South Carolina, a baby shower

Rwanda”, the true story of the hotel manager, Paul
Rusesabagina, who housed and saved the lives of over
1,000 Tutsi refugees from the Hutu militia. Don

NEW PROGRAMS AT THE OCL
Orangeburg County Library
Exchange
Participate in our new program, the Orangeburg
County Library Seed Exchange, and connect to other
members of the community. Located in the atrium of
the Main Branch, you’ll find a great selection of seeds
to choose from, take home and plant. . .for free! Seed
packets are labeled with instructions for healthy plants.
Return after your harvest, and donate seeds from your
crop to share with others. Be a part of our rich agrarian
history while having fun in the dirt!

Do you know that you can
study for it on the OCL’s
website? Select the “Resources”
tab at the top of our home page,
click on the word “Automotive” and you can read and
study the S.C. Driver’s Manual, free of charge! After that,
select SCDOT Permit Practice Tests to see how much you
know. And, to make sure that you really know your stuff,
try the Marathon Practice Test. Good luck and happy

Meet Keith Byers
Keith Byers is a long-time resident of Orangeburg with strong ties
to our community. He has worked in the Reference Section of
the Orangeburg County Library for the last fifteen years. Keith
has wide and varied duties, which include working with the
public in our computer lab and answering your questions at the
Reference Desk. Mr. Byers also works with interlibrary loan
materials and transfers. If you have requested any special
materials, you can be sure that Keith has had a hand in
the process!
Keith’s parents, Ted and Gladys Byers enjoyed visiting the library
and were happy when Keith joined the staff at the OCL. In his
spare time, Keith enjoys reading (of course!), working in his yard
and watching television.
Mr. Byers holds an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration
from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College and a
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from
South Carolina State University. He also holds a Master’s Degree
in Education (mathematics) from SC State. Keith also attended
Erskine, where he received a Master’s Degree in Divinity, and the
University of South Carolina where he received a Master’s Degree
in Library and Information Sciences.
