This module aims to bridge the gulf between school and university French studies by developing the
language skills of post A-Level/Higher entrants and offering them a grounding in the literary and cultural
tradition in France. In particular, it aims to ensure grammatical competence and promote comprehension
andproductioninbothwrittenandspokenmodes,andtoteachthereadingofFrenchliterarytextsintheir
socio-culturalcontextanddevelopbasicskillsofliterarycriticism.
