DESCRIPTION:
The game of volleyball for elementary physical education Class is played on a
rectangular court divided by a tightly stretched net. Teams consist of 4, 5, or 6 players. Front row players start
on the yellow line and the back row player start on the red line. Before the back right person serves they will
say their team score, then the other team’s score. If the ball hits the ceiling on the serve it will be a side-out for
the receiving team. Each team may hit the ball a maximum of three times in returning it across the net.
The ball is returned back and forth until one team makes an error (fault). A point is earned anytime the
opposing team commits a fault. When the receiving team fails to return the ball within three or less hits a point
is scored for the serving team. When the serving team makes an error or commits a fault, side-out is called and
the other team wins a point and the serves. The team must rotate clockwise one position before serving. A
player may not hit the ball two times in succession.
