Tips for Transporting your Household
Hazardous Waste
Improperly packaged and transported household hazardous
waste (HHW) poses a risk to you, your family, and pets.
• Keep products away from children and pets.
• Secure the load with ties to prevent the load from shifting.
• Keep products in their original containers.
• Never mix different products together.
• Make sure items are well sealed, lids tight, and not leaking.
• Place items in leak-proof tubs packed with newspaper.
• Put leaking cans into another tub or bucket, and add clay–based
cat litter.
• Wrap fluorescent bulbs/tubes in newspaper to prevent breakage, or
wrap the ends with plastic wrap.
• Do not bring containers larger than 5-gallon size or loads larger than
50 gallons total to the HHW Collection Facility without calling first.
