Important Requirements
Mandatory
No guns or ammunition will be allowed on school grounds for any
reason at any time. This includes Empty Shells Casings.
Passing grades at school. Must meet the requirements of any athlete.
Practice will be at time where students will have plenty of time to go home and get all
equipment and be at practice on time.
2 Safety classes are required of all new participants. This will be offered at no cost and
managed by participating coaches. The time and place for the safety orientation will
be discussed later in this presentation.

Shell catchers for semi-auto guns (Please ask a coach and they will guide you)
Gun – 12ga or 20ga. recommended
◦ 12-gauge shotgun which fits your son or daughter properly (The coaches are more than happy to make
suggestions) would be best. If recoil is an issue a gas-operated semi-auto is best. Gun fitting will be
discussed during the safety meetings.
Ammunition
◦ Ammunition for a 12 gauge should be 7 ½, 8 Shot size and no more than 2 ¾ dram equivalent with a 1
or 1 1/8 load.
◦ Ammunition for a 20 gauge a 7/8 ounce load of 2 ½ drams equivalent and the aforementioned shot
sizes will suffice.

$9 for range fees ($4.50 per 25 shells shot, normally use 2 rounds for practice but you have the
option to shoot more)
Your name should be on all your equipment (except gun and shells)
Journal and pen or pencil (Keep a written diary of your shooting performance/s and techniques
being used.) (good place to keep the shotgun identification number)

One practice required per week (this includes 15 Min safety meeting)

Proper Gun Fit: Go to a Gunsmith/Professional or talk with coaches
Pattern the gun you will be using – we have a patterning board
Put cell phones on silence while at practice
Practices begin with 15 minute safety discussion
If you have commitments that interfere with these requirements please talk

Trap Shooting Orientation
ALL first time team members MUST attend 2 orientation meetings (no exceptions)
◦ Safety Meeting #1 March 1th (2PM) or March 5th (6PM)
◦ Safety Meeting #2 March 8th (2PM) or March 12th (6PM)
◦ Meetings start at on time
◦ Meetings will last about 2 hours
◦ Safety Meeting #2 Bring Guns NO shells
◦ Meetings are held at the Ikes Chapter House
◦Parents are encouraged to attend

Requirements for Lettering
Performance Requirements:
•All high school athletes (grades 9-12) participating in the Ankeny Schools Trap Team Program who meet each of the
following requirements will be considered for award of the Trap Team letter. Recommendations will be made to the
athletic director by the head coach of the trap team. Recommendations will be established via multiple coaches’ input
assisting with the trap team activities.
•Academic Eligibility: The student must maintain good academic standing according to the Sports Participant
Eligibility and Good Conduct document.
•A Youth Shooter must do his or her part in the Team fundraising events established by the coaches.
•If a squad wins the Iowa High School State tournament, all participants of the squad will letter.
•At least two years participation on a high school team.
•Attending 75% of practices and competitions.
•Qualifying for State shoots in two years and competing in at least one state shoot without disqualification. *
•High-Honor lettering can be achieved via advanced shooting scores (shooting 23 or higher in 5 practices or meets or
combination of practices and meets). High-Honor letters will include a letter plus a pin recognizing excellence in
shooting skill and a certificate of excellence if perfect scores are achieved in a practice or meet.

7th Grade is not associated with the Ankeny Schools System
7th Grade is purely an SCTP Club Team. The SCTP will manage all insurance through
membership
Checks should be payable to “Ankeny Shooting Sports Foundation”
No funds should be paid to the School for the 7th grade program
All 7th grade coaching, meets and supervision will be managed by Jody Martin.
Currently the 7th grade will practice at the same location and time but will shoot only in 7th
grade squads.
Bussing will not be provided for 7th grade team. Parents will be responsible for all
transportation
Away meets will be optional and attended at the direction of the 7th Grade Head Coach
